#1zombiegleemaxMar 26, 2004 2:42:52 | I, for one, like the idea of the Faction War, but only after I've run it in my own campaign. My party is made up of all newbies to the setting, so I am planning to run it when they are level 12 or so (I will probably have to make a few encounters in the adventure harder). I have a story hour on the ENworld boards up about my budding campaign (titled Mike's Pre-FW campaign). And while I understand that the faction politics almost seem like they make Sigil what it is, if you read between the lines there is still ALOT of that going on in the planewalker material. Plus, anyone who thinks Rhys checked her utmost belief in the Cipher credo at the door on the way back into Sigil is either barmy or just stupid. And she has an enviable position in the new power structure of Sigil. Add to that everyone's favorite smelly-breathed, fiendish, wanna-be deva (ahem, the Britney type, not the Upper Planes type ) willing to do anything to get herself on the council, and a million other things caused by the fall of the factions and I think the politics of Sigil are still useful in a campaign. Personally, I'm going to right an adventure on Burgher Tovus Giljaf's return to Sigil and his plans for the Athar just hanging around the spire. And if it's not your style, you can easily run it before FW (like I am right now). Canon is only a tool to be used by several writers using the same setting. I don't think anyone's offended if you don't use it (well, on second thought, if you discuss it with a certain arcanoloth, a) ignore the bad breath, and b) act like she's important and beautiful. In other words, lie) Maybe Darkwood doesn't find the gem. Or maybe everyone's favorite barmy factol doesn't agree to wed him, making his entire plan fail (maybe the PC's stop the wedding for this reason :D). In any case, have fun with the setting. I sure am. I love FR but the pure madness of the planes has me giggling with joy as a DM. Oh, and ShemesHka . Two words. Breath. Mints. Take it easy, Mike |

And mock me publically and you'll wish you were mazed by the time I get through with you. But... that said..." *smiles sweetly* "On your way back to Sigil." *pushes you back through the portal* *breaths on back and hand and sniffs, then scowls* *sighs and waits till the portal closes before opening up another one and stepping into a room in the Lower Ward* "Honey... why do I have to be the mean, vindictive and stereotypical Arcanaloth of the bunch? And I don't have bad breath do I? Everyone's afraid of me, nobody likes me, people question my gender, pick on my name, and you get called nice and friendly..." -cut to black- (sorry, couldn't resist...) |

#6bonemageMar 27, 2004 0:31:52 | Yeah I am going to run pre faction war campaigns for awhile too. I have never gotten (or taken) the chance to run the planes before but am now starting one up. I think I have at least 2 or 3 (maybe 4) campaigns worth of material before I would "have to" make the switch. We'll see though I am running this one to get myself used to DMing the planes and get some players introduced. I would love to run a Great Modron March/Dead Gods campaign next but we'll ahve to see how the players pan out. I don't want to start that campaign and have it fizzle out. |
