#1Silverblade_The_EnchanterApr 01, 2004 2:12:07 | Ok these are the 4 ships I've completed so far. 2 Images (simplistic textures) are done in the model building program and show exact scales. Working on Tradesman now. So, wondering folks opinions on these? I rebuilt the Tradesman a bit as it should be water landing capable, but wonder if I should rework it a bit and make it more like the original, with a more curved/1-piece bow and eyes sitting on it at an angle, which would allow some forward viewing, as the original image for the ship seems to show? but that seems a bit less practical *ponders* |
#2nightdruidApr 01, 2004 6:46:05 | Originally posted by Silverblade The Enchanter Looks very good. From the looks of it, you've greatly enlarged the squid from the deckplans to closer match the actual stats (same with the MoW). IMO, I would enlarge the eyes of the tradesmen, to make it appear more "fish-like". Not sure if they need to be moved forward, but making them larger would help give the ship that fish appearance. |
#3Silverblade_The_EnchanterApr 01, 2004 11:22:35 | Thanks, Nightdruid Yah I looked at the deckplans and the actual keel/beam dimensions as printed, the stats on the ships always doesn't always add up correctly. I preffer to go for the largest dimensions because too small, and the ships would be impractical. Re-working the Tradesman now to be more like the design, not too happy with it. Ah, more work ;) |
#4gray_richardsonMay 24, 2004 22:38:20 | Looks great! |
#5Silverblade_The_EnchanterMay 26, 2004 18:50:30 | Thanks Gray Though I altered the Tradesman's design to get it more like the original depiction http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=223160 |
#6zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 10:13:26 | I saw the SoE symbol from M:tA on the side view of the Tradesman. It's on the flag. You do that on purpose? |
#7Silverblade_The_EnchanterJun 12, 2004 1:59:23 | True_Believer SOE symbol from M:ta?? What's that? M:TG = Magic the gathering so whats M:TA? never played any of those card games..one reason being they sucked the life out of AD&D years back...*cough cough*. If you mean the Tradesman's FLAG (on final version), that was done in Paint SHop Pro with Fonts, I just picked what fonts had interesting symbols to create a cool design. Added a spiked border and tweaks. The original Tradesman flag, pictured in this thread, was another fancy font, tweaked, put over a more complex background. As for WHICH font and letter *Scratches head and shrugs*, got me there, without hunting it out again. I have hundreds of fonts, and just use a font viewer when making art to go through them and check for cool looking designs. (Note I changed designs on the Tradesman, one pictured here is original, which I didn't like as much) Using fancy fonts saves a whale of time! |
#8zombiegleemaxJun 12, 2004 2:19:03 | It looks a awful lot like the symbol from the Son's of Ether, a group from a White Wolf table-top RPG, Mage: the Ascension. But that aside...it still kicks ass. |
#9Silverblade_The_EnchanterJun 12, 2004 12:55:18 | Mage the Ascension, ah should have realized, that name rinsg a bell but not a system I've played (pure D&Der myself). Had a look in the folders..I deleted the graphcis for the original tradesman design (flag and UV maps) when I re-did the design to "Mark 2". AH HA! after messing around with my Font viewer (I have 820 fonts, since I use them in art)...I THINK it is the letter "i" from the WWMAGEBAT, font. And lgad ye liked the ship Wish they had done more offical Spelljammer, the ship designs were *awesome*. |
#10bigmacJun 13, 2004 0:18:23 | I love your ship designs. The tradesman picture looks great even with the eyes slightly too small. I can't wait to see what the bugified one looks like! LOL So what is the plan for all these ships? Are you making "cover art" for the official website (and the other Spelljammer sites) or are you creating a library of 3d shapes for others to share? |
#11Silverblade_The_EnchanterJun 20, 2004 10:55:37 | Bigmac, Thanks ) Well I did finish the "tweaked version" of the tradesman, and yes most of the models are on my site (link in signature). Mostly in .obj format, as I work in Bryce. Would love to do offiical art *dreams* |
#12bigmacJun 21, 2004 0:51:51 | Originally posted by Silverblade The Enchanter You are certainly good enough to do artwork (in my opinion). If you don't already do this then perhaps you should approach some of the people with Spelljammer websites. If you are willing to let them use some of your artwork for free then you could build up a portfolio of work. Then both you and they benifit. If you could easily put the flag of an organisation ( created by a referree or website owner) then I'm think you would be especially popular with people. I looked over your website and was very impressed (although I didn't see all of the images at the start of this thread I did see some impresssive stuff). I've got Truespace at home so I don't think I could use your 3DS models. Still as I'm still attempting to get the group I'm playing with off of Toril and into Realmspace I couldn't use the pictures yet anyway! :D I've got a link to your page from the Spelljammer links page of my role playing clubs yahoo group (hope you don't mind). |
#13Silverblade_The_EnchanterJun 21, 2004 9:06:08 | I don't know if Truespace can import .obj format or not, most packages do though. Couple of the models are also in .3ds format which is usable by nearly every 3d app That's cool (links) and hey , really nice to be appreciated! |
#14bigmacJun 22, 2004 2:06:59 | Originally posted by Silverblade The Enchanter Truespace is OK to use but seems to have its own way of doing everything. As far as I can remember it can't cope with other peoples file types. Still that is a bit of the topic... ...I look forward to seeing what you do next. I wonder if anyone has done a 3D model of the Rock of Bral yet? :D |
