I would hate to find out that this poor little creature was lost and fogotten. I would personally love to see an offical version of these guys some day and it is my hope that the Bestiary will do exactly that! Check out the online petition on my site for more info! |

#5DragonhelmApr 01, 2004 10:15:13 | These cute and furry critters have recently been added ta da Palanthas endangered species list. These creatures be rumored ta be da messengers of an extinct species of smurf known as da astral dragon. While dis was no great loss, it still goes against da tenets of Habbakuk ta let any creature become extinct. The Kodragon Foundation (local 431) seeks ta prevent such a catastrophe from happening again. We have established a refuge near da Citadel of Light where kodragons be being raised for eventual release into da wild. Yet we cannot do dis alone, and so we come ta you. For just one silver piece a day, we can operate dis facility ta save kodragons from redheaded rangers who have them as their favored enemy. We can protect them from ogres who find them a delicacy. And, if you’re a kender sorcerer, sucka may wish ta adopt (not “borrow”) one of these cute and furry guys as a familiar. With a pouch dat acts like a bag of holding, those suckas serve as a kender’s faithful friend. Make da difference in da life of a kodragon today. Paid for by da Kodragon Foundation. All donations go directly ta da salvation of da kodragon, save for those few dat land up in our pockets. Do not attempt ta slay da kodragons. Our lawyers can buy and sell you. Can sucka hear me now, yo? Good. Do not pass Go. Do not collect two hundred dollars. (Edited to keep Mr. T lingo going after the April Fool's joke is over.) I pity da fool... |

Equipped with a portable marsupial pouch, high intelligence, and opposable thumbs capable of writing it makes an excellent familiar for a wizard. It also serves exceptionally well as an animal companion for a druid or ranger. A particularly useful mechanic I would use for the kodragon is to provide an expert's skill points. As well, another good idea would be a choice among various intelligence based skills which he can surpass his normal HD limit in a couple of them as a special ability. For example, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for a wizard to have a kodragon who can decipher script and read ancient Istarian so he doesn't have to take those skills himself, saving them for Craft: Alchemy or various other adventurer's skills. I know lots of people hate kodragons, but I don't understand people who just dismiss them without looking at the possibilities of how useful this creature is with a small tweak. It is literally the perfect adventuring wizard's assistant. |
