#1havardApr 06, 2004 12:17:15 | There is a picture of the Aspect of Orcus miniature on: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mi/20040212a Apparently, the Demon Ruler was detailed in the Book of Vile Darkness or whatever it was called. Has anyone seen that writeup? Ofcourse, this would be the Greyhawk-version of Orcus, rather than the Mystara one...but if it fits, there is no reason why we can't steal it. Havard |
#2havardApr 06, 2004 12:30:44 | Replying to my own posts might not be good netiquette, but doing some more searches, I found some more interesting art from the Book of Vile Darkness: Picture of Orcus. Really cool Picture of Demogorgon (a little disappointed with this one) Yeehoghu, the Gnoll Patron. Not bad! Again, if anyone has the book, Id be interested in hearing about its usefulness as related to Mystara. I never bought it myself since it struck like a rather adolescent idea when I first heard of it. Maybe its not so bad after all? Havard |
#3zombiegleemaxApr 06, 2004 16:16:44 | I have the book, and I found it usable...actually, I never used it outside Mystara(albeit my Mystara Campaign is quite planar). Orcus is much like he should be, I guess... |
#4spellweaverMay 02, 2004 6:36:30 | I always thought that Orcus and Demogorgon belonged in the world of Greyhawk. How did they find their way into Mystara? Is there a difference between the versions? Are they an official part of the setting (Mystara) or just something fans decided to include in the canon? :-) Jesper |

#6havardMay 02, 2004 8:51:39 | Actually, different OD&D sources refer to Demogorgon either as male or female. Someone suggested that maybe since the Demon Ruler has two heads, the heads associates itself with opposite genders. Demogorgon and Orcus were introduced in the original Immortals rules, but were also mentioned in WotI and in the Red Steel Box, so Id say they are definately part of Mystara aswell as Greyhawk. If you want to avoid confusion among players who are familiar with both settings, I recommend using the Red Steel names for the two: Goron (Demogorgon) and Oruguz (Orcus). Orcus also had a full writeup in WotI, in which he is said to have been a Devil Swine in Traladara. IMC I made him a Gnoll/Devil Swine who was part of the Traladara Beastmen Invasions. Demogorgon only had a brief writeup, so her/his origins on Mystara remain unclear. Clearly the Demon Rulers are not the same on Mystara as on Greyhawk, but since they exist in both places we might aswell steal as much as possible from Greyhawk and D&D3e material, right? Havard |
