#1maladaarApr 09, 2004 0:41:18 | I have checked online at both Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Is the DL DM's Screen 1-931567-18-2 released yet? Dragonlance.com has a release date of Dec 2003, but I know it was delayed. If it isn't does anyone have any idea when it will hit the stores? While I am at it what of KoD and the Bestiary? Are those being delayed as well? |
#2zombiegleemaxApr 09, 2004 0:47:58 | Well....I don;t know what the screwup is with the Amazon and B&N thing......but I can tell you that the DL DM Screen is out....I got my copy two months ago |
#3zombiegleemaxApr 09, 2004 0:53:37 | Key of Destiny should be out within the next few weeks with the Bestiary to follow shortly thereafter. You can check out some great previews of the monsters in the book here: http://www.dragonlance.com/d20/enhancements/bestiary.asp |
#4maladaarApr 09, 2004 2:15:23 | I did a search on Dungeon Master Screen and every other type of DM screen game up from the 3.5 DM Screen to the 3.0 DM Screen to the Forgotten Realms DM Screen. I will have to stop by the store with the ISBN and see what they pull up. BTW - How would you rate the screen? |
#5brimstoneApr 09, 2004 10:35:57 | The screen itself is fine. It has one mistake on the money changing table (same mistake from the DLCS). However, I believe this version of the moon tracking chart is correct (the one in the DLCS is asthetically incorrect...meaning the pictures of the moon phases are backwards and switched around...but the gaming info is still right) But the booklet itself is the true gem of the Screen, in my opinion. It gives examples of NPCs for all the classes and it has a very indepth look at how all the D&D creatures fit (or don't fit) into Dragonlance...and how they came into being. What the base races were (bakali, human, elf, ogre) and how the other races and monsters have really evolved from those four (mostly thanks to the Greygem). It's a great section! I highly recommend the DL DM Screen. |
#6brimstoneApr 12, 2004 9:56:43 | Originally posted by Brimstone I'm sorry, I have to make a correction. This weekend, I compared the two moon charts. Unfortunately, the one in the DL DM Screen is still incorrect. The phase pictures are correct now, and they changed the direction of flow of the chart to more appropriately fit where the starting points are...but the labling is now wrong. "First Quarter" should be "Last Quarter" and vice versa, and everything that says "Waxing" should actually say "Waning" (and vice versa). It's confusing...and I actually found sites on the internet that contradict each other in which terms mean what and what direction the phases move. But I did find a [definative] version on NASA's site...so I would hope that that is right (it's the one that made most logical sense to me as well). All this being said...both charts work perfectly fine as far as game mechanics go (since Waxing and Waning are identical when it comes to bonuses, etc.). They're just a little confusing as far as the rest of it is concerned. |
#7maladaarApr 30, 2004 0:58:19 | As I still search for the screen.... |
#8NivedApr 30, 2004 1:07:49 | You should try Margaret Weis' online store... specifically here. |
#9maladaarApr 30, 2004 4:00:14 | Cheap as I may sound, I am trying to keep from paying shipping and handling costs. All of these additional niceties start to add up. |
#10silvanthalasApr 30, 2004 8:16:41 | Originally posted by Maladaar I just did an ISBN search on Amazon.com for the DL DM Screen, but nothing was found. Can't find Age of Mortals by the ISBN either. Nor Key of Destiny. ... Ahh, got AoM now - had to remove the dashes from the ISBN # that DL.com lists. Still no DM Screen though. Here's a link for anybody wanting to get Key of Destiny from Amazon.com (although, based on the info they have, I wouldn't suggest it): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1931567115/qid=1083330944/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-6935014-9230444?v=glance&s=books |
#11zombiegleemaxApr 30, 2004 10:33:41 | I dont rememebr shipping being all that much from MargaretWeis.com, but I got the DM's screen just within a couple of days after I orderd it...with Margaret's signature on the book, and it wasn't any fake stamp either. As far as if it's worth it, I agree with Brimstone. The booklet alone is worth it as it has all sorts of info for different NPC and finaly some rules for a hoopak, which are missing from DLCS and AoM. Kinda odd to me that they would give it in the DM's screen. |
#12lorac75Apr 30, 2004 12:15:32 | Shipping is 10 bills on Weis' website, which is steep considering the DM Screen probably weighs under an ounce. (If someone weighs this thing or tries to defend the shipping cost as a value because it comes signed I'm going to be appalled, because there is no way this cost is accurate to what the shipping actually is.) |
#13zombiegleemaxApr 30, 2004 12:22:53 | Wow! That is steep. I wonder if it is due to priority mailing it or something, I don't know too much about shipping costs, I always try and buy something in person...I know that doesnt get me a signature or something else cool like that, but it does get me a book in my hand as soon as my money leaves it.:D Anyhow, man that sounds like a lot...ten bucks for shipping the screen? Now my curiousity is piqued, anyone know why it's so much? |
#14zombiegleemaxApr 30, 2004 20:50:53 | The DM's Screen is very nice, I like that it gives examples of which monsters exist in Krynn. I bought my at a Sci-Fi store down in Orlando, FL. |
#15maladaarMay 03, 2004 0:02:26 | Considering that the shipping cost alone is 2/3 the cost of the entire screen, I will pass until I find it in a local Barnes and Noble or Borders. Same price (14 and change), no shipping cost even if they have to special order it. |
#16zombiegleemaxMay 03, 2004 13:11:40 | I bought my DL DM screen off of Ebay. ~~~ |
#17maladaarMay 08, 2004 16:34:45 | Ok, why doesn't Barnes and Noble or Borders bookstore even have a listing for this? I went to both stores locally with the ISBN #1-931567-18-2, which I got from the Dragonlance website and they get no results/listings for any product. |
#18brimstoneMay 11, 2004 10:01:07 | Originally posted by Maladaar I don't know...B&N should have it...it's on their website. BoK I did notice though that the website has a different ISBN number than what you have... |
#19maladaarMay 13, 2004 0:01:41 | Brimstone, B&N has or can order the BoK, I just picked mine up today. The ISBN that I listed is for the DLDMS (DL DM Screen). I e-mailed Renae concerning this. The info is correct. I even brought the printed page from that link to B&N along with the printed e-mail from Renae and the employee at B&N is at a loss as to why their system does not list it. My local B&N is currently looking into it and are going to get back to me. It makes no sense why they can order the BoK, but have no listing of the DLDMS. B&N tried to say that it must be out of print, but when I showed them those printed pages it left them speechless as to why. I do owe Renae an e-mail thanking her for her quick response to my e-mail (which I kind of ranted in, due to my frustration). In all of my dealings with the SP sales department, they have always been cordial and tried their best to be accomodating. I do want to give them all a thank you as far as that goes. |
#20brimstoneMay 13, 2004 10:41:48 | Originally posted by Maladaar heh heh heh...oops. I knew that...I did...really...uh...yeah, don't believe me, huh? Okay. |
#21nukeMay 13, 2004 18:49:23 | I usually shop for RPG stuff at this site. It has the Dragonlance DM screen for $11.95. With shipping that comes to a litttle under $15.00 for budget and $17.00 for Standard... which isn't bad, particularly if you can't find it in your area. Here is the link Maybe that will help. |
#22zombiegleemaxMay 13, 2004 20:06:29 | Originally posted by silvanthalas The Dragonlance DM Screen is virtually unavailable in the book trade. The product was offered to the book-trade buyers, but I was told that a product of this kind does not shelf well and it is easily damaged, a combination that causes significant problem in a market with full returnability. I highly recommend going to your hobby retailer and requesting the DM Screen, as they can order it through any major game distributor here in the U.S. and overseas. As for the MargaretWeis.com shipping prices, we have to base a price based on the total price of the order--with a listed minimum of $10.00 because most of our products are book format and either have a certain weight or need to be boxed. The charge also includes the handling fee because we work to get Margaret's signature and still ship out on an average of same- or next-business day. That said, we can take special requests over the phone and will made alternative arrangements to lower the shipping & handling charge. Renae's really easy to work with, and we try to keep everyone happy. I hope this answers a few questions. Jamie Chambers Sovereign Press & MargaretWeis.com |
#23maladaarMay 14, 2004 4:23:50 | Jamie, Thank you for at least finally clearing up that mystery. I can understand (although my not agree with) the book-trade buyers chose to refuse to carry it due to it being easily "damaged". But how come they (B&N) carry these DM Screens and how come you can find those DM Screens at Amazon.com. Sort of a contradiction since I did buy/bought my 3e and 3.5e DM Screen from B&N that is published by WotC. I definitely don't feel the love for DL from these vendors. Could be I am tired of DL gaming being treated like the red-headed step-child of gaming. (No offense to any red-heads, step-children, or red-headed step-children intended.) I do thank you (and Renae) for clearing things up and informing us that special requests "by phone" can be made. |
#24zombiegleemaxMay 14, 2004 8:59:09 | The v.3.5 DM screen is a bit more sturdier than the DL DM screen IMO. Not that I am saying it is better, but the DL DM screen is more on the pretty side. It is a gorgeous screen and full of goodies(Such as the book that is included.). The v.3.5 screen that I have I received as a part of my Dragon magazine. The Dragonlance screen can bend easily whereas the one I received in Dragon magazine cannot. My wife bought my Dragonlance screen off of Ebay for 10 dollars not including S&H. How much are you willing to pay for it ? ~~~ |
#25maladaarMay 14, 2004 16:58:37 | Amazon also carries the FR DM Screen, not just the 3e and 3.5e editions of the DM Screen. Aside from that, TODAY IS A GREAT DAY! A victory for the little guy. The local B&N called (remember I dropped off the DLDMS info page and Renae's e-mail) and they confirmed that it could only be special ordered and once ordered it cannot be returned (which is what Jamie had stated). Who in their right mind would return DL stuff???? I was looking to pay no more than the suggested price of $14 and change. Thanks to those of you that sent PMs of where to purchase it. It just happened that B&N called before I placed the online order. |
