#1zombiegleemaxApr 10, 2004 12:46:43 | I just got Dragon #319 and Dungeon #110 and was wanting to run the new Dark Sun the only thing I need is the racial abilities of the Elan and Maenads from the XPH until I can come up with the $40 to get the new book. I would appreciate if someone would email me these stats at champions_guru_y2k@yahoo.com Thanks, Burpo |
#2xlorepdarkhelm_dupApr 10, 2004 14:20:52 | FYI - I think this is a "no-no" with WotC. However, I'd watch the SRD, as it should get updated with the XPH rules soon. |

You could use it or join the two conversion and have the better of both world (which is better at athas.org 90% and Dragon/Dungeon 10%). |

The SRD for the XPH will be out in about a month, I believe. You may also check out the latest Dragon, which reprints some of the races from the XPH. Some have minor changes (such as favored classes), but overall they're the same. |

I have the pdf of these rules and I like them but I'd also like to have something a little more official as well. They do do good work if anyone else is intrested. Burpo |

Yes they do but they only show how they differ from the version in the XPH. I also didn't ask for the stats to be published here just for them to be emailed to me. I don't think its illegal for personal use as long as no money is exchanged, but this is WotC we're dealing with. Burpo |
#7catharzApr 10, 2004 21:04:03 | Actually, if it is in the SRD, it is open gaming content and you can re-print it as much as you like. The problem is that until the SRD comes out, you don't know what will be in it and what won't |
#8GrummoreApr 10, 2004 22:36:37 | Originally posted by Mr_Burpo_Belchins Actually, athas.org conversion is as official as paizo one. Both are. Which lead to the better one and flavorwise one :D athas.org |

Just like Grummore said. Paizo's conversion is also official, just like Grummore said. Guess I need to add more stuff to my sig, sheesh, or get this in the FAQ. /me pokes Flip |
#10zombiegleemaxApr 11, 2004 1:49:52 | I have the pdf of these rules and I like them but I'd also like to have something a little more official as well. Check out both resources. Then decide on which one suits your gaming needs better. Also, if you can find them, there are other conversions as well out there (Shei-Nad and Strutinan both have done conversions of DS, both would gladly send you a copy). Official status or not, use what works for you, not what has a label slapped to it. That's just acting as a mindless drone. But, as Nyte and Grum point out, both the Dragon/Dungeon articles and the Athas.org conversion have official stamped all over them at no less than 100%, with the full backing of WOTC in writing in both cases. There's no such thing then as 'more official' than another, except in one's one perception of things. Use what will make your game better, but realise that there's nothing wrong with patching together a few different resources into your game. All of the DS conversions differ on several key issues, but the beauty of it is that they all work with D&D 3E (or 3.5) as the base, so its actualy very simple to pick and choose what it is you like best about each one and fuse them together into your own game based upon your needs and the desire of your group in general. |
#11keshApr 11, 2004 10:34:44 | Originally posted by Mr_Burpo_Belchins Money exchange doesn't factor into it. Quoting a copyrighted work verbatim is illegal, whether money is exchanged/lost or not. One can make citations, for a report or news publication for example, but wholesale copy of part of the work is illegal. If someone were to paraphrase it, that might be acceptable, but it's a bit of a gray area. And, it wouldn't give you all the details you need to run the races, anyway. Just give it some time and the SRD will get updated or you'll have the money together for the book. |
