Im a little confused about weapon damage and inferior materials. Is there anything in 3.5 about this?

And about wild powers in 3.5? Every character in Athas has psionic power?

Thx!

The new Dragon Magazine has all the rules for alternate material and innate powers. If you plan to run 3.5 DS pick it up. It has an alternate take on the Darksun of old and the Athas.org version. All and all it is a good issue as long as you look at it with an open mind.

I'd say check with athas.org's write-up. They have a form of weapon breakage that sticks pretty close to the PHB-style weapons, in that all weapons have HP and break when they run out of HP's.... or somethng like that. And not every creature/character has psychic powers in the Athas.org write-up, only those who take the Wild Talent feat, or are of a Psionic class - to me, this feels more like Dark Sun than everyone getting automatic powers (up to 4th level?).

Eww! Have to take a feat to be a wild talent, that's just as far of a difference from 2e, as giving extra powers. You do have a point about Athas.org with the weapons though. Good thinking :D

You miss the inheirent beauty of it. Athas.org stays on WOTC's good side by keeping their rules in line with the core, but if you want the old 2e uber power feeling of having everyone get free psionics, then simply allow everyone to take the feat for free at the start. There's no major work-around needed.

The athas.org material has weapon breakage and damage rules ... It just so happens that they don't get automatically applied whenever you roll really well. Major 3e design tenant: Don't punish the player for rolling well.

However, the hitpoint / hardness rules do make Sunder a much more valuable feat. Non-metal weapons break easier when someone actually makes the effort to try and break them.

I had a question about the wild talent feat and the non psionic buffers from the original psion handbook. If a PC takes the feat are they subject to psionic attacks without the benefit of a psionic defense? In which case they are flat footed and basically get stomped by a real psion. If they dont take the feat, do they get the non psionic buffer and the +8 bonus to their will saves.

Going off of 3.0 Psionics, I would say yes they are vulnerable. The description says that people who lack psionics lack the necessary pathways that psionics use, and as such are protected. Someone who has psionic powers, even an untrained one, must have those pathways and therefore be vulnerable.

Has there been any discussion of including a psionic defense mode in the Wild Talent feat?

I was under the impression that psionic combat was a goner in 3.5 ... although some of the modes have been rewritten as powers (which may or may not affect others based on wether or not they're psionic or not ...)

Yeah, Psionic combat is gone, but some attack and defense modes are powers now

Empty mind now gives you +2 to will saves, and it augmentable at higher levels to give you better bomus

Intellect fortress halves damage of the manifester and people within range from psi powers

Ego whip does some charisma damage.

Mind thrust does some damage now. . .

They just killed psionic combat...just killed all the flavor!

I used to like the old combat and defense modes, and all the descriptions of mental battles that happened in all Dark Sun adventures...

At a first glance i loved D&D 3.0 and 3.5 the new set of rules is amazing. But they are killing some details that i loved...and creating others that i really hate.

I still play using the DS first era box, and converting the rules to 3.5...but i´m trying not to destroy the "old way"

Congratulations to Athas.org and to Shei-Nad of Gulg...they are doing a good job.
