Just think about it: An intelligent true dragonlance and a silver dragon mount debating about the best tactic to take down a red dragon while the Knight of the Crown riding the dragon doesn't get a say in the matter and just sits there looking confused.

Apr 17, 2004 12:10:59 I've never heard of one, although it is theoretically possible that one could exist. I would say, being that dragonlances are the holiest of weapons in Dragonlance, that the personality should reflect this in some fashion. Perhaps it would be heroic, or paladin-like.

A possible story hook for this is that the spirit of a Knight of Solamnia resides within the dragonlance. Perhaps he fell during the Third Dragon War or the War of the Lance, and his spirit cannot rest.

Likewise, one could do something similar for darklances (abyssal lances). Perhaps the spirit of a Knight of Takhisis resides within the lance, cursed to residing there by Takhisis for failure to use the lance to vanquish the dragons of light. Then the darklance could come into play sometime during the War of Souls or beyond.

An intelligent dragonlance/darklance doesn't have to be due to a spirit either. Such weapons could be "awakened" by their respective deities to aid those who would weild them in battle.

I would also think about keeping such a weapon unique. Give it a purpose. Perhaps an intelligent dragonlance is created with some power above and beyond (see DLCS for rules on unique dragonlances) to fight a specific dragon. Perhaps it is designed to fight the dragons of Chaos, or a dragon overlord.

Apr 18, 2004 5:09:44 Yeah, I think it makes sense that it would most likely be a holy weapon of sorts and be infused with the spirit of a knight. The only other option may be a spirit of a dragon.
