I recently found a map of Grewhawk and from what I've read on these boards I learned alot about it. I plan to set my next campaign there, but there are still some questions I have:

The Theocracy of the Pale - what religion(s) rule it? Is there one ruler, or a council?

The Scarlet Brotherhood - a group of power-hungry monks, or psions who want to rule the world? And are they (demi)human?

Iuz - is he still around? The map I have shows his empire, so I'd like to know whether to get a new map or not.

The Circle of Eight - are they still around? What is the current year anyways? And if they are still around, who's a member?

Tovag Baragu - is it still working? Or was it destroyed in "Vecna Lives!"?

The Valley of the Mage - I've read WG12 (Valley of the Mage) which treats Jason Krimeah as a human, but I've read elsewhere that he is an avatar of Boccob. What's the Canon take on this?

Thanks to anyone who responds!

Well, I don't want to be rude but BUY THE DAMN BOOK MAN! heh, sorry.

Seriously, all the answers you need are in the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer.

For now I'll answer a few of your questions though:

1) Pholtus

2) The Scarlet Brotherhood are Suel (a type of human) supremacists. They are monks but remain very secretive and many fear even rumors of them.

3) Iuz is very much around and is still badass as ever. The LGG I suggested has the newest GH map there is so buying it would get you a correct map as well.

4) The current year is 594 CY I think...not sure, my campaign is 592 but Living Greyhawk is ahead.

5) The Circle of Eight is still around, they're members include Mordenkainen, Bigby, Otto, Jallarzi Sallavarian, Nystul, Warnes Starcoat, Alhamazad the Wise, Dramij, and Theodain Eriason.

6) No clue

7) Um...I don't know...I think there is canon on that and people just yell at eachother about it until they decide what they want to do with it.

Tovag Baragu - This place was not destroyed in Vecna Lives! but was damaged, at least temporarily. The adventure Die! Vecna Die! has the Tovag working again (at least partally) and has it functioning as an enormous planar nexus.

The Valley of the Mage - The whole avatar of Boccob smacks of Gary Gygax's "Dance of Demons" and "Come Endless Darkness" novels. I think Gygax called him Basilv in those books.

Canon for this is currently very sketchy: The ruler of the Valley of the Mage is one Jaran Krimeeah. When last I checked Jaran's obsession with extending his life was such that he was putting all his time and efforts into becoming a Shade (he detests the "rotten flesh" undead types). Because of this obsession he's pretty well left rulership of the Valley to Tylsan San (his paramor) and the various demi-human settlements found through out.

Also active in the Valley (and creating a LOT of trouble) is a a group of evil Necromancers who were banashed from Gran March some time ago. One of their number resembles the Exalted One (as Jaran is known to the demi-human population) and they've been using this to move about the country getting what they want (including access to several of Jaran's towers).

In addition, here is what I have heard:

1) Even though Pholtus is the main power of the Pale, the state is run with cold intolerance and as a very strict religious state. They tend to focus on the Lawful neutral way of life.

2) There is even more information on the details and history of the Brotherhood in the 2e write up titled "The Scarlet Brotherhood." The racist Suel of this land are descendants of the Suel refugees from the Suel Imperium and so also have a dislike for anything Baklunish. In addition to the monks, their society is arranged on a 3-tier structure with monks at the top but rogues and assassins also holding significant positions. They also experiment in genetic manipulation and have been said to have created several new slave races.

3) Jaran Krimeah is a distant relation of the former Overking of the Great Kingdom and as exiled from that land after being tied to a plot to overthrow the emperor.
