#1zombiegleemaxApr 18, 2004 23:25:50 | I dont know where my friend came up with this (if he swiped it or wrote it himself), but I would like to see a thread on the differences between these 3 systems. Special thanks to Tsuul (if he wrote this himself). -Halfgiants in 2nd edit got double hit die, not d12 as Dragon#319 stated. This might have been changed in the second edition of the second edition DS. -Thrikreen only used 1/7 the amount of water a demihuman used in 2nd edit. Athas.org removed this. Not sure about Dragon#319. Halfgiants used more in 2nd. -Elves in Athas.org are resistant to heat and ignore all but the worse conditions of heat.(huge benifit imo) -Defiling rocks in Dungeon#315. Athas.org grants level bonus+1 to spell. -2nd edition/Athas.org Half giants are huge 10-12ft beasts that can wade in the Sea of Silt. Dragon#319 has them choking to death due to size I believe. -Dragon#319 adds new xPsi-handbook races and is XPsiHB friendly. Athas.org has not implemented yet but will most likely not include the new races(yay) -Not sure about armor rules in Dragon #319, Athas.org has armor granting armor check penalty to heat checks(penalty) instead of standard -4 for heavy. -Clerics rock in Athas.org, but are vastly different from 2nd edit. Can't remember Dragon#319's version. -Bards: Athas.org is closer to original 2nd edition, -Dragon#319 gave all races psionic abilities. Athas.org doesn't. |
#2GrummoreApr 19, 2004 15:09:00 | Now that you tryed to poorly show us how athas.org conversion is sooo bad, why dont you show us that 90% of the athas.org conversion is much better thatn 319 dragons? I won't go in much details right now, but I might if I get the time. Only one point, have you really read athas.org release? Athas.org = flavor + peoples who actually KNOW darksun Dragon "editor" = Zero flavor + peoples who doesnt care about "defiling" a setting to please FR peoples who would like to play in DS. FR != DS. |
#3zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 16:03:44 | actually I like the Athas.org stuff. This is not a bash on them. I think they did a lot of good things. I am just trying to see what differences there are between the different versions. I think everything has its good/bad points. |
#4DragonhelmApr 19, 2004 16:28:04 | I have to say that I didn’t get any ill intent when I read the original post. Seemed like a well thought-out comparison. The impression I was getting was that it was a compliment to Athas.org for holding true to the original Dark Sun materials. I think it’s good to look at the various systems, see what you like and what you don’t like, and go with what works best for you. |
