#1xlorepdarkhelm_dupApr 24, 2004 12:07:39 | So, I went to my local gaming/comic/hobby store here in Lompoc, CA with nostalgia kicking in, since I haven't been in that store in 10 years. The guy who used to run the store, still owns it, but moved to Minnessota (I think), and left another guy to run the shop while he's out there. anyway, I went there, because my roleplaying group in TN has the 3.5e core rulebooks we'd use (our other GM out and out bought them, while the rest of the goup chipped in together to buy an extra 3.5e Player's Handbook). I go, and get my hands on a MM and DMG, but he's out of PH's (of all things), and also out of the XPH (really not surprised). I ask him to hold onto a copy of each when he gets his next shipment in. He's explained that in Lompoc, he has sold over 300 copies of the PH, 150 - 180 of the DMG, and about 220 or so of the MM. Not too bad, considering the entire town fits within a 3 mile by 3 mile square of land. Didn't realize there were so many RPG'ers out here. I also start talking about Dark sun with him - he never got the shipments of the Dragon/Dungeon magazines that "released" Dark Sun in them (really messed up paperwork sent them to Los Angeles instead of here) - and there were many people upset, as there apparently is quite a number of Dark Sun fans here as well (including him). So, I gave him the athas.org addy, tod him to check it out, and there was PDF's available for download at that site. He thanked me, we talked a bit more, and basically he's gonna let the hundred or so gamers who are dying for Dark Sun in this area know about athas.org. I also told him that many of the athas.org people are found on this message board, as well as in the mailing list. So.... You never know when you get the opportunity to advertise for the athas.org documents. Oh, and it looks like I might be able to run a DS game with about 10-30 players there at the store.... |

#3zombiegleemaxApr 25, 2004 9:24:05 | You lucky dog! I'm seeing visions of a 10-30 people Gladatorial Campaign dancing through my head... I can just image everyone rolling up a gladiator of some sort and competing in various arena events. True, its not very intellectual... but it certainly sounds fun. |
#4nytcrawlrApr 25, 2004 10:05:47 | That's damn cool Xlorep. Wish there was half that amoung of gamers here, let alone ones that played DS. Maybe there is and I just don't know where to look yet, hmmmm. |
#5zombiegleemaxApr 25, 2004 12:54:29 | Lets see, 1. Small town. 2. In the middle of nowhere right? 3. Unusually full of gamers. You know that is the plot to many 70s/80s horror movies. There is going to be some horrible twist in which fantasy becomes reality. You know there is going to be some evil demon controlling everyone there. Well, the demon could just like to play D&D though. |
#6dawnstealerApr 25, 2004 13:02:08 | This would be a good time to bring up the point that a lot of gamers new to DS will be logging on to these humble boards with questions about "What's a Hamanu?", "Who's Borys?", and "My Blood 08s!d!@n sword is 733t!!!1!!11 LOL!" Be prepared and be nice. No need to scare away potential fans...even if they've been corrupted by the Dungeon/Dragon articles. |
#7nytcrawlrApr 25, 2004 13:18:00 | mmmmm fresh meat... I can hardly wait. |
#8GrummoreApr 25, 2004 21:25:26 | Man, you are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lucky... I my area, it's almost dead. I mean RPG... Damn Diablo hack and slash. |
#9AgonarApr 25, 2004 21:51:30 | Bah.. Lompoc is so far away from Vegas.. even too far away from my previous Socal residence. . . I need to discover a previously hidden cache of DS gamers here in Vegas. . . Mention the word Gaming, and everyone things gambling for some reason. . . can't figure it out. . hehehe |
