#1cmrscorpioApr 25, 2004 15:21:40 | i'm getting together info for a DS campaign and i'm wondering which prestige classes from various wotc publications you all think would be appropriate for DS. Here are some of the ones i think might fit, albiet with a few alterations and flavor changes: Skylord - from BoED. Available to elf and half-elf druids, rangers, and air element clerics who rule the skies as they soar above the scorched wastes in their search for better lands for their elf tribes to roam and seek out defilers to extract vengence. Swanmays - BoED. much like the skylords, but their domains are the oases and forests that still remain untainted by defilers. Ur-Priests - BoVD. members of small secretive sects located in each of the city-states that strive to overthrow the dragon-kings. instead of stealing power from deities, they steal power directly from the dragon-kings. However, their actions are extremely dangerous and their spellcasting draws the attention of the dragon-kings themselves who immediately send templars to deal with the power-usurpers. Horizon Walkers - DMG. little change would need to be made here, i think. shadowdancers - DMG Bonded summoners - Miniatures Handbook. these could be perfect for elemental clerics as long as prerequisites were changed to be divine magic focused, removed the "must have familiar" prereq, and changed hit die changed to d6 or d8. tactical soldier - Miniatures Handbook. ideal in team gladatorial contests war hulk - miniatures handbook. ideal for big, dumb half-giant gladiators to take war chief - miniatures handbook. leaders of halfling or elf tribes might have leaders with levels in this. I'd enjoy some constructive criticism and any other ideas you may have. |

Things like the "Psychic Weapon Master" from the Mind's Eye on the Dungeons & Dragons site is an interesting class to accent the Psychic Warrior and make them more impressive, especially working off of the fact that their weapon is crystal (and not metal). The bloodhound (from Masters of the Wild) is also another good one. I had a campaign where there was a Half Elf Psychic Warrior/Psychic Weapon Master, and a Thri-Kreen Ranger/Bloodhound. The former used a 2-handed weapon, while the latter used 1-handed weapons (the walking cuisinart, with the Multiweapon fighting feats). You'd think that the TK would have had the advantage with weapon damage, but they actually usually both averaged about the same amount of damage/same lethality to opponents each. Spellcaster ones I'm cautious about - and am not fond of the "Mystic Theurge", however survival-type classes, and others that seem to fit the Dark Sun world better I allow. Ones I probably wouldn't allow would be ones dealing with the planes (like the Horizon Walker), campaign-specific ones (like the Red Wizard of Thay), paladin-like (with an occasional exception for the player who can justify it's existence good enough for me), and the like. |
