#1zombiegleemaxApr 27, 2004 0:19:55 | "Aarakocra do not posses lips, and therefore cannot even approximate the 'm', 'b' or 'p' sounds." How would aarakocra pronounce a word that has 'm', 'b' or 'p' sounds? |
#2xlorepdarkhelm_dupApr 27, 2004 10:34:09 | Umm, well, imagine what something with a beak might try. They close the beak, and get more of a "t" sound out of it. |
#3zombiegleemaxApr 27, 2004 21:15:02 | you can use 'n' in place of 'm', 'd' in place of 'b', and 't' in place of 'p'. it'll sound odd, but human minds are adept at filling in what they expect to see/hear from context. |
#4beltaineApr 28, 2004 5:21:59 | Well perhaps the entire Aarakocran (word?) vocal system is rigged similar to a parrot (being able to mimic sounds) thus even though they don't have lips they can make all the sounds we can, just not the same way. Also small nitpick, thats pronunciation, not pronounciation. (Funny how people always get that wrong when complaining or remarking on pronunciation) |

Using a lot of th's n's, ng's and some growling sounds to fill in, and some . . . like, lip pops, the sound when you pull your thumb out of your mouth type thing. Of course, if the character speaks common, they can get their point across. If the player really wants some roleplaying XP, then by all means reward him if he plays out the lack of lips. otherwise, ignore it. |
