I've been working on a Ravenloft Adventure. Somethings are just getting finalized.

Feel free to browse the sample here. To get an idea of the look and feel of it.

Cheers.

A few things,

1) What you posted isn't a sample - it's useless preview images. Samples would actually be able to be read. There is no way to get the "look and feel" of your adventure from this preview.

2) You are not affiliated with Sword and Sorcery, near as I can tell, and the site you are previewing within is an advertising site, implying that you intend to sell this adventure. That's a big no-no, as Ravenloft is *not open content*. If I'm wrong, correct me.

3) Your "preview" site tried to install GAIN on my computer, which I regard as a personal insult and attack. Stop it or move to a different page. There are plenty of free web pages that don't try to instal invasive adware to visitors.

4) Your cover is clearly a portrait photoshop of Leonardo diCaprio, and again, unless you're his agent or with his agent, using such a clear and obvious likeness in the sale or distribution of a product requires the payment of likeness rights for copyrights, except in the case of parody.

Don't mean to be mean or anything, but these are important concerns.

Where did he said he wanted to sell it ? Pinpoint me this, please.

I've showed the image of the cover to my kids and one of their friend - Di Caprio fans. They didn't see any ressemblance ... I guess it's a matter of taste......

Don't want to be mean, but I think you should relax Remember that this guy wrote a 50 pages adventure, and those should not be all the comments he gets.

Joel's right. There is no money involved here what so ever. My apologies for the website pop-ups, the website is temporary.

As for the 'sample', well the whole adventure will be released through the fraternity of shadows for free. Then I'll probably scrap the temporary page.

We are just fans of the setting, and all we are doing is just filling an obvious need for a fan-based adventure.

Fans like this are why I never felt sorry about not finishing Death Undaunted.

Just so you know, whenever you chew someone out because of a factoid you've invented, you tend to come off as, well, let's settle on "silly."

Azalin used to call this sort of thing "imaginary questions."

He hasn't said anywhere that he intends to sell this adventure, and the presence of a banner ad in no way makes that implication. Which is not to say that such an adventure is legally in the clear, but then again no Ravenloft fan creation ever was, and needs to be considered from that perspective. This adventure, like all the Kargatane netbooks and the Quoth the Raven stuff, exists at the grace of the license holders and owners.

Adware is a pain. That said, your reaction is slightly less ridiculous than claiming that his website punched your mother.

Do yourself a favor and save a copy of the above point for yourself. Five years from now, read it again. When reading it, if you don't think you came off as shrill and hysterical -- it'll mean you haven't improved in the meantime.

Heh. No. Take a look at the Domains of Dread darklord portraits sometime.

No, they're signs of someone who lacks perspective and is ill-versed in the facts.

I beg pardon. I was more than a little out of line, and I apologize. I just get a bit shrill (yes, I admit it) when I perceive someone as trying to profit off of a fan market. I am sorry, though.

I would also like to note that I still think the art is a photoshop of Leo, but meh.

However, if John M. believes that fans like me are why he gave up writing free adventures, he obviously hasn't met the really bad ones. In the many posts I've made on these boards, this is the first time I've been out of line, rude, or even close to nasty. Check my record on this - hell, Mangrum's been meaner than I have on a much more regular basis.

I'm a contributing member of this community - maybe not on Mangrum's level, but I do my part. And when I get rebuked - fairly, I'll continue to admit - on a matter of netiquette and a (fairly major, but honest) mistake, I would prefer to not get held up as an example of everything that's bad with the fan community. It's petty and unnecessary. I already feel bad enough for screwing up - don't start blaming me or "fans like me" for making you give up adventure writing. If you gave up, it's because *you* wanted to.

Criticism goes with the territory; I'm a professional writer too, trying to get into the gaming industry after having some minor success writing short stories and fan material, and being told that you suck happens, mistakes where people only think you suck happen, and actually sucking will happen too. I personally think that Mangrum's an excellent author, current personality clash aside, and I hope that someday I can be as recognized as he is, but right now I feel a little bit irritated that one bad comment - my first bad comment, in fact - could be so horribly twisted into an indictment of the fan community as a whole. It's not just an insult to me, it's an insult to all fans - demanding, or otherwise.

Now that I've vented a bit, let me say it again: I apologize for my mistaken point of view.

Well... I don't want to get involved in all the scuffling, but I would be interested in actually seeing what the adventure involves, as it certainly looks intriging.

Looking very interesting. I've tried to write some adventures myself (never was able to finish them, though), which makes me appreciate your effort even more. I'm really looking forwards to seeing this when it's finished.

Set in Invidia, is it?

To answer your question, Malus Black...the adventure is set in Invidia. The adventure is almost finished. I sent the draft away to the guys at the fraternisty of shadows last week or so. They are looking it over with their encyclopedic knowledge of Ravenloft at hand. If they like it enough (the initial response so far has been positive), then the adventure will available for download in pdf format through the fraternity of shadows website for free. Hopefully we will have it ready by the third week of May, maybe earlier.
