#1edgelettMay 05, 2004 23:42:35 | I know Weis & Hickman met while they were both working at TSR, and the dragonlance campaign setting & books then began. My question is, out of interest, which came first??? was it a campaign setting based on the Dragonlance Chronicles, or a series of books based on adventures their characters had?? |
#2NivedMay 06, 2004 0:04:40 | Tracy Hickman was hired by TSR and came up with the setting while driving to Wisconsin from Utah with his wife as the story goes. http://www.trhickman.com/dlance.html \ Straight from the horse's mouth. |

#12valharicMay 07, 2004 11:33:35 | mmmmmmm......eggs (DOH!) Back on the subject. I believe I read somewhere that some of the events in the novel actually came from W&H playing the modules with their friends. I think one example they sighted was Tas playing the Wicker Dragon god. |

#14nukeMay 08, 2004 7:31:33 | The idea of the novels were for support for the modules. Interestingly, not knowing how successful the novels would be, that is what caused a push for such an abrupt and finite ending for Dragons of Autumn Twilight. They wanted to make sure that the novel could stand alone in case they weren't sucessful. Hence the rather large gap between the 1st and 2nd novels. Obviously the novels were successful, and the trilogy was completed. But if they weren't, the modules would have still been released. And pretty much all of the character's developements, traits, were discovered by playing the 1st modules. Raistlin frail, raspy voice. Caramon and his bunny shadow puppets, etc. |
#15cam_banksMay 08, 2004 8:55:05 | Originally posted by Nuke It was from a single session of playing the first module, actually. Tracy ran the game, but it wasn't a campaign or an extended playtest or anything along those lines. Folks get the impression that Dragons of Autumn Twilight was almost a transcription of a campaign run by the writers, but it wasn't. Cheers, Cam |
