In Savage Species it states that creatures with more than two arms get a .5 increase damage per arm when wielding 2+ handed weapons. So the thri-kreen wielding his Gythka would get a X 2.5 on his Str score. If he has, lets say, a 24 Str (with a +6 belt) Then he would be adding +17 damage per hit. YIKES! He could easily give a 1/2 giant a run for his money. Now if you make him a Psi-Warrior then he becomes even more fearsome- Expansion plus all the other combat powers. Just an observation for all the kreen lovers out there ;) |
#2zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 17:27:23 | hm... Rule-wise it could end this way, if the DM allows it, but... A Gythka wielded with 4 arms? I suppose, it would break under that much pressure Thri-Kreen muscles work in a different way (they are insects after all) so the DM could just say, they can't bring up enough pressure to justify the dmg bonus. Or simply put: The Gythka is used for slashing mainly, not hacking or piercing, so using 4 arms would mean no improvement. And I believe it would be anatomically impossible for a kreen to put all 4 Arms on a pole-arm 2 Arms per side is ok, so wielding 2 two-handed swords would work, but you would have to create a sword with a really long handle, to put all 4 arms on it (with the dmg bonus already worked into it's stats)... A Kreen using the gythka would look more like a bo-ka perhaps switching the armpairs during fight, to look more stylish But it's the DMs say after all, if you allow it, it's fine with me, I simply love the kreen ;) |
#3Markus.lMay 07, 2004 17:38:47 | The point wasn't so much about what weapon is being used but more for the possibility of damage increase. Of course the weapon would have to be extended. Savage Species even says something about this in that to use all 3+ arms the weapon's grip needs to be elongated for the "extra" hands that will provide the "extra" force. |
#4zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 18:27:32 | hm... I took it in that way too ;) Just wanted to provide my in-depth view on this matter Kreen rock and should dominate all lesser species, so give them that extra dmg if they can adjust their weapons to that (There is still the mighty kreen empire out there - beware Dra). |
#5jon_oracle_of_athasMay 08, 2004 3:27:36 | On the other hand, kreen with sneak attacks are also fun. All those dice. :D |
#6zombiegleemaxMay 11, 2004 13:44:11 | hey newbs, kreen can't wear belts... iirc |
#7jon_oracle_of_athasMay 11, 2004 14:28:14 | Explain the logic behind that, K - I dare ya. |
#8korvarMay 11, 2004 16:38:29 | I'm assuming he means that Kreen can't get the use of a magical belt. But I'd have to check my Thri-Kreen of Athas or summat to check. Alas, I am at work, and my books are not. |
#9dawnstealerMay 11, 2004 16:44:57 | Under the new item creation feats, it wouldn't have to be a belt. You could do it with the weapon itself, if you wanted. Here's something worse, though: four bastard swords. Or two held in two hands each. Or two long bows. |
#10Markus.lMay 11, 2004 18:08:56 | Thought all the kreen lovers might be interested to read and maybe post on this new XPH kreen thread: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=237397 |
#11kilamarMay 12, 2004 0:30:25 | I think you are a bit wrong. When you wield a Gythka with four hands, you wield it with two per side like two Greatswords. The damage increase would be proportional to that. A Human wielding a double weapon treats that as wielding two light weapons. No 1.5x damage for him. Kilamar |

He was almost a match for the halfgiant fighter, who I forgot to give a lvl penalty (I started this campaign before athas.org had finished their work) |
