What are some of your own domains?

One of my originals involved a writer. He lived in a musty old house and the townspeople loved his work. However, he would write about the supernatural occurances that happened to the folk. Little did the townfolk know, he was causing the supernatural events to occur with his writing.

The flip side is that there was an abandoned asylum on the edge of town no one ever went in to. they left it up for historical value.

See, in the Darklords mind, he was a brilliant writer. But actually, he was locked away in the asylum where there were a lot of patients and the musty old mansion had been abandoned for some time.

Dulcit: The darklord is a clownish-bard who really cannot spin a good ghost story. Unfortunately the local tradition, holds ghost stories as the best sort of fun. The Bard scares no one but children (many of whom die from nightmares he inspires), adults just laugh at him.

Autotrappi: The Families rule Autotrappi, a land famous for its concentration camps, eugenicist agenda, and devotion for perfection. No breeding is allowed unless licensed, homosexuality, onanism, and adultery are all punishable by death. Forced abortions are common, erotocide is common, incest acceptable for keeping bloodlines pure, and the creation of human monstrosities common.

Raven: Gibber is trapped in this primitive barren domain wracked with hunger pains the entire population also suffer. The land is very similar all over and so getting lost and traveling in vest circles is the usual event.

There's a link in my sig that leads to a board where you can detail your own domain (with accompanying darklord) and battle other posters. Or maybe you've got a Hero of Light who has come to slay the Darklords. Talk to the man in charge, he'll hook you up.

A domain I've designed but haven't got to use yet is Cruciatis. Its darklord is a vampire who, in life, was the leader of a heretical cult to Ezra that revered him as the physical son of Ezra. He manipulated his followers for personal gain, utilizing minor magical tricks and sleight of hand to convince them of his divine heritage.

Finally, one of his followers realized what he was doing and turned him over to Darkonese authorities for subverting Azalin's power. They had him tortured and crucified, but during his last moments alive, a Kargat vampire offered him immortality in exchange for utilizing his cult as an information-gathering network. The heretic agreed, but betrayed his sire in turn, luring him into a great stone tomb and sealing him inside for all eternity.

He returned to his followers and led them into the Mists. He found a new land waiting for him, one in which his followers were shown his divine heritage in every aspect of the land, but reminded the heretic constantly that his creed was a lie. Worse, his betrayer had been swept up with him, the only man with the knowledge to reveal his lies. Quickly, as well, he realized that the followers that had traveled with him were interested only in his apparent immortality, the ability to cheat death.

Since that time, the heretic and the betrayer have been locked in a silent war for the faith of the people. The heretic must live nightly with the truth of his actions, never able to believe in his own lies, maintaining loyalty among his followers only through the application of his vampiric abilities rather than through true faith.

The great thing about Ravenloft is how you can apply the things you know in twisted fashion to make something even scarier.

I've created my own domain using the D20 CoC and the Dark Ages CoC book. It's called Mythos. We've had lots of fun with it so far.

One of the domains I created was a Savage Land-like place (similar to the one from Marvel Comics and The Land Time Forgot movies). The ruler was a proto-dracolich (red dragon) trapped in the body of T. Rex searching for his body to consume to transform into a true dracolich. The area was ringed by mountains similar to Vorostokov while the center contained a lush jungle valley with a large lake in the middle and a large volcano just to the east of it. In the heart of the volcano was the phylactery of the dracolich. The only way to truly destroy him was by killing every T. Rex in the valley and then traveling into the volcano and destroy the phylactery.

There was a tribe of lizard men who worshipped the T. Rex dragon (he was noticeable since each body he took would later have its scales marked in red) and made sacrifices to him by capturing humans and leaving them tied and defenseless in a spot the T. Rex dragon would come by.

The outside of the valley contained a raging blizzard which the ring of mountains blocked. Half of the outside was an ice covered sea (for those who ended up in the domain by traveling by ship) while the other was a glacier (for those traveling overland). People would be driven into the valley although it was difficult and many died to reach safety. The only way to leave the domain was to find one of the underground entrances that could only be found in the valley. The caves would eventually take you to another domain underground.

Tragathos: A deserted collection of city-states where two rivals thirst for eternal beauty at the expense of others.
Earth-basis: The Mycenaeans

Dorjiloka: A mountainous realm where a monk demands respect from the people who have shunned his godlike status.

Igid Rabi-i: A tropical island whose religious tyrant searches for an artifact that the people see as righteously for themselves.
