Like human, with the N taken off the end. Which means for me, that's HYOO-muh.

Note to self: Don't type up most of your message, then walk off to change the toddler's Muppets DVD before hitting "send".

Been there, done that. What's worse is when you do that, then realize an entire conversation has gone on by without you.

Ah, the Whitestone Toddler Brigade.

Cool, three responses, two different opinions.

Is there an "official" pronunciation guide, or should I just go with whatever I like?

most people say huma, like hyoo-ma, but as tracy says, the only pronounciation that matters is the one you hear in your head.

Bingo. In other words, there is no official pronunciation guide for Dragonlance. Pronounce names however you wish.

Intresting. So i dont have read it. What for a stlye is it? I have readed huma. Simple huma. Huma was write in english. And i very happy that my country book publisher not translate the firtsnames by heros. But only the lastname. And there is then sometimes a different to the original.

Actually, they just translated the last names because they were made with words that meant something.

e.g.: Sturm is an original name, Bright Blade are english words, therefore they have been translated (Sturm de Lumlane in French).

Even from novel to novel the names sometimes change, if someone else translated those novels...

The question about names are considering that the common language is the English...When I believe it's just a translation for the readers, as much as the Dwarven or Elven are translated in English...

I give you Example what i mean.

In your language is it a original name. ;) Cool! Let it me say so Sturm is in German the word for Storm. So i think is a powerfull name. And Steel ist Steel. Is it in french Steel de Lumlane?
But what i mean is Sturm Brightblade was translatet from my country publisher in Storm Fireblade.
In very old Sourcebook, not in the novels, Ranger was translate in horseman and Gullydwarfs was Gutterdwarfs.

You can speak Huma when you will how Homer from the Simpson or Homer the writer from Troya. But this has not to do with my countrylanguage.
