In the games he is a cleric. In the novels he was a wizard. They didnt want to make another Verminaard-esque vilian in the novels so they changed it to wizard for those.

That was always an annoying inconsistency. I changed his stats to that of a Black Robe way back when I ran a WotL era game.

He was a cleric in the Emperor of Ansalon novel.

Ariakas is being presented (along with all of the other dragon highlords) in WAR OF THE LANCE. We are presenting him as seen in DRAGONS OF SPRING DAWNING--with a twist!

Cool. I don't suppose you'll tell us what this twist is, will you? Or at least give us a hint? Why do something like that, tantalize us, then make us wait months to find out?! TELLMETELLMETELLLLLLLLMEEEEEEE!!!!!

Well, it has to deal with the fact that Ariakas is *CENSORED BY SOVEREIGN PRESS* to the *CENSORED BY SOVEREIGN PRESS* with *CENSORED BY SOVEREIGN PRESS*, *CENSORED BY SOVEREIGN PRESS*, and *CENSORED BY SOVEREIGN PRESS*.

And that's where *CENSORED BY SOVEREIGN PRESS* comes into play!

Pretty neat, huh?

Damn, Jamie has that autocensor on me again. ;)

Renegade.

I hope not. Dragons of Spring Dawning specifically describes him as being a Black Robe, not a renegade. The WOHS would have been too scared of the Dragonarmies to cast Ariakas out as a renegade anyway, even though he did show an unseemly devotion to Takhisis.

Bah! The WoHS are a bunch of nancys.

In all fairness though, I think it would have something to do when he died, and some other people joined him...and...and...

If you tell me I will be your best friend !

Actually, I would like to see Ariakas being a Fighter/Cleric/Wizard/Black Robe. We can finally do this now for 3E.

I also seem him as being at least 20th level.

Ah, but remember that a character in Dragonlance cannot have more than one patron deity. So Ariakas could not be both a cleric of Takhisis who also reveres Nuitari.

Now, he can be a Fighter/Cleric/Wizard (Renegade).

Of course, we have to ask whether or not he'll have any levels of Legendary Tactician.

What if he got his magic from Takhisis like the Grey Robes do?

Hmm...that's a good point, is that going to be explained how Takhisis is able to do what only her son should be able to do? Grant black magic to wizards?

Or maybe that's not how it works anyway. Man, it's confusing. I really hope the book goes into how magic works, what is need to be a wizard, or a sorcerer, and how being a renegade works in the eyes of the gods, etc. etc.
