#1zombiegleemaxMay 17, 2004 15:25:12 | Did anyone read the Oerth Journal, issue 15? I was reading on Druidic Bards, which if I read correctly, is a PRC that can only be taken by a multi-class fighter/thief with no prior spell casting ability of less than 10 levels and a minimum of 3 levels per ftr and thief class. Now, the confusion I run into is this... Does that article suggest that the Druid Bard is a replacement to the 3.X bard? Is the 3.X bard still a class after using that? I don't mind either choice, they both seem to add something to the game, but I am curious what the article is suggesting, I was not clear on that. As I understand it, the Bard of Greyhawk was originally the Druid Bard, different than what it is in 3.X. But if you take out the Bard, then I feel maybe it leaves a slight void for the performer type minstrel, however, a performer does not really need to be a "bard" he could instead be a normal person of any or no class with ranks in perform... thus eliminating the 3.X bard. Or the 3.X bard could be the minstrel, lore keeper of the normal populace, a jack of trades with an interest in the performing arts... though by lore of GH, that would not explain where he learned to weave his magic with song. As it is, the druid bard sings and plays his druid spells on instruments, the way they were trained to do it, as an alternate way of casting spells... I like this idea far more than the normal bard. I also love the fact that bards have a lore backing like this AND they can cast spells in armor! I also love thier instrument spell powers... all in all, the druid bard is FAR better than the arcane bard... but as per lore, does the arcane bard have a place in Greyhawk? (And thanks Canonfire, good material) |
