Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find a conversion of the Visages from Dead Gods? Many thanks,

Just for you, simmo, here's a 3.5E conversion I did up this afternoon. Anything to give you more time to write posts for your story hour. :D

Comments and suggestions welcome. The CR for these bastards is so bloody hard to estimate, because the lucidity control power gives the DM so very much room to do whatever the heck s/he wants.

Servants of the mysterious demon god Tenebrous, these undead tanar'ri appear as shadowy, amorphous humanoid figures. A strange white mask covers the area where its face would be, and two black, razor-tipped claws protrude from its murky torso.

Dominate Person (Sp): As per the spell, three times per day, but the visage must actively concentrate to maintain its control over the target. A visage can't use its dominate person and lucidity control powers at the same time.

Lucidity Control (Su): A visage can seize control of a victim's senses for one full round, feeding them whatever sights and sounds it wishes. Visages tend to use this power to sow confusion and fear among their opponents for several rounds before they attack. Unwitting victims get no saving throw, but a victim who realizes that something is affecting his mind gets a DC 17 Will save to ignore the effect that round. As such, a visage's sensory substitutions tend towards the subtle and insidious.

Soul-Stealing (Su): A visage can choose to assume the illusory form of any humanoid they slay by absorbing the victim's soul. They gain a +10 bonus to Disguise checks to impersonate their victim until they choose to drop the disguise, and the victim can't be resurrected by any means short of a wish or miracle. While in the form of a humanoid victim, a visage can't use its natural claw attacks.

Summon Tanar'ri (Sp): Once per day, a visage can attempt to summon 1 visage with a 25% chance of success.

Tanar'ri Traits: Immune to electricity and poison; fire, acid, and cold resistance 10; summon tanar'ri.

Undead Traits: Darkvision 60 ft., metric buttloads of immunities which I'm too lazy to retype at the moment.

Oho! Xanxost has tried for many hours to convert the Visage, not to good, but to 3.5. This may be what Xanxost has been looking for.

It's pretty close. Physically, it's probably slightly weaker than the 2E version, but A) it's really all about trickery and misdirection, not hand-to-hand combat, and B) there's a scene in Dead Gods where you go up against four of them at once, plus three human assistants, so I didn't want to make them so badass that the module became unplayable. I added the "summon tanar'ri" because it's a standard part of the 3E "Tanar'ri traits" package, and just made stuff up for the DR/skills/feats, etc.

Thanks for the conversion! It will come in very useful for the next few adventures. I have updated my story hour and need to make a few more updates before it is fully up to date.

Coming soon: a death, a foot-step, a dead world and a flying visit to the Bottom of the Multiverse.

Thanks,

Simmo
