Knights of the Rose and Habbakuk

In my campaign, a number ( although a minority ) of Knights of the Rose have grown uncomfortable with the new crusading fanaticism of the Solamnic Order under the patronage of Kiri-Jolith, and have turned to the worship of Habbakuk. In conjunction with a number of Knights of the Crown ( who already revere Habbakuk, of course ), these Rose knights have formed a loose association within the greater Knighthood, known as the Companions of the Kingfisher. The goal of this group is to shift the focus of the knighthood away from aggressive crusades against powerful outside forces such as the Minotaur Empire and Neraka, and back towards the restoration and re-invigoration of the old Solamnic nation, and the defence of its heartland and common folk. Although they support the expulsion of the dark Knights from northern Solamnia, the Companions see themselves as guardians rather than crusaders, and involve themselves particularly closely with Solamnia's naval and coastal defences, as well as rangers and scouts in the Solamnic Auxiliary. The Companions also accept like-minded mystic Knights who are sympathetic to the tenets of Habbakuk.

What do people think of this concept, and how would the church of Kiri-Jolith, as well as the majority of Rose Knights, react to the formation and activities of such an organization as the Companions?

First of all, you ae from Brisbane Australia too?! Where do you play?

The knighthood would most likely react the same way they did when Tanis spoke of the Dark Knights of Tahkisis. Ignore the problem until it bites them in the face.

Yep, I'm a Brisbanite, too. We usually play at a friend's place in Indooropilly ( we're all UQ students or ex-UQ students, so its nice and close to campus ). Unfortunately we're still wading through my Forgotten Realms campaign and a friend's home-brew game, but I have high hopes for a Dragonlance game sometime this year, if I can get everyone to commit. Then again, pigs may fly as well!

to me, also as a brisbaneite, although from the caboolture area. dang it all.

but getting back to your thread, that is a wonderful direction that the knights of solamnia are heading.

ultimatly, as long as they are acting within the measure, and upholding the code, there is little that can be done. whilst kiri-jolith has taken the place of paladin in the solamnic knight there would still be the power to choose.

to me i actually think that it would make the knighthood stronger, there is this force that is hunting and cleaning out northern solamnia. while at the same time the slightly more level headed amongst them are strengthening the land and surrounding areas.

great idea. keep it up.

if i could i'll play DL with you at the drop of a hat

preferably a qualinesti bard aiming at becoming an arcane archer
just as something to play.

That sounds like a really good source of inter-order factionalism. Makes the Knights much more interesting to play.

I like this idea as well. Seems the Knight of Solamnia are so spread out over the world that they need to condence and reclaim old territory.

On a related note, Age of Mortals states that Mishakal has been actively recruiting warrior-priests into her faith, including individuals from within the Knights of Solamnia. It doesn't however clarify whether these Knights ( presumably from both the Sword and Rose orders ) can continue in the Knighthood if they switch allegiance to Mishakal ( assuming that they remain Lawful Good and honour-bound ). Cam or Dragonhelm, could either of you clarify this? I believe the relevant section of text is on p.188 in the Gods & Religion chapter.

It definetly would offer some interesting roleplaying opportunities for Knights.

But honestly, the last thing Krynn needs is bleeding heart liberal Knights of Solamnia.
