#1zombiegleemaxMay 23, 2004 0:15:30 | This is a (sorta) new base class that will be in my next gaming article, on Complete Warrior. It's called the Officer. I don't know if I can post the whole thing, so this is the Lite Version, requiring either Complete Warrior, or at least access to the Samurai base class: The Officer is the same as the CW Samurai except as follows: At first level, Daisho Proficiency becomes Favored Weapon. The officer chooses either a melee, or ranged weapon, or a weapon pair. They get either Exotic Weapon Prof. or Weapon Focus with that weapon as appropriate. For instance, a favored bastard and short sword pair would give you Exotic Weapon Prof(Bastard Sword), while a favored longsword would give you Weapon Focus(longsword). I hope I explained this good enough. Every time the Officer reaches a level that would give the samurai a Two Swords as One ability, they intead gain either the Two-Weapon Fighting, Melee Weapon Fighting, or Archery ability. The TWF would be the same as the samurai's, and the Archery would be the same as the Ranger's, and the Melee Fighting would be Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Specialization, and Improved Critical. Of course, TWF, Melee Fighting, and Archery isn't going to be the ability's name, I will come up with cool ability names later. I think the TWF abilities can stay Two Swords as One, but I don't know about the other two. Also, the Melee Fighting feats are subject to change. For instance, I might put Improved Critical before Greater Weapon Spec. Finally, remember that each feat only works when the Officer is wielding his favored weapon(s). Also, any abilities whose names don't fit with the DL Flavor, such as Iajitsu Master or Kiai Smite, probably will be renamed. For instance, Kiai Smite could be renamed Muster. So, input? Also, I will post the full write-up of the class if I am allowed to. |

If this is the case you may want to give the class Leadership in place of one of the usual samurai bonus feats, and use a similar list of class skills to the Marshal or Legendary Tactician ( things like Diplomacy, Knowledge [ military tactics and strategy ], and Perform [oratory] come to mind ). I can't comment much on your feat substitutions for the standard samurai, since I can't find my copy of Complete Warrior , but they sound okay. |
