Does anyone mix and match various rules from 2e into the 3.x rules? Such things as different types of saves, conversions and what not?

If so which ones and why?

Also, where, if anywhere on the web can these be found?

There's a 3.5 Ravenloft? Because, really, all I've seen thus far is a superficial revision to the third edition that's less in-depth than what your average fan could have written up and posted on a web-site, free of charge and likely better to boot.

Ahem. Sorry for the smarm.

Anyway, I more or less keep to the 3rd edition rules. I do use some 3.5 rules, but none of those are ones that are the creation of 3.5 Ravenloft.

I also use some of the minor rules that never made it into the books, but that some of the authors had wanted in there (such as John Mangrum's "Pistols are simple weapons in CL 9 domains, and muskets martial ones"). However, I do that fairly sparingly. For the most part, I keep things fairly simple. If I'm using an 2nd edition rules, I'd be surprised...

The reason why I ask is well, Ravenloft is a very 'rich' game in the sense of roleplaying potential and cool quriks. I was looking through Van Richten's guide for 2e and comparing it to 3e and there were some serious let downs.

That book was full of crazy details about flesh golems, racial vampires, the 'bride and groom' and other really great ideas. I really didnt see alot of that in the 3e stuff. Did i simply miss it?

Sorry about the 3.5e interjection, I play a 3.5e Forgotten Realms game now and its pretty good, but lacking in the things that counts. 3e and 3.5, have a tendency to make RPGs a ROLL playing game and not ROLE playing games. Since RL is a Role playing game, the 3.x rules are in a way counterproductive to the game.

Without reprinting and updating all nine 2e VRG's, there's no way that all the cool ideas therein will be brought into 3.x. There is just too much, developed over a decade that just couldn't have been convereted in the short time 3e has been around without everyone crying foul and saying that it was all just a rehash with nothing new.

They made a pretty good attempt at condensing all of it into the last chapter of the 3e RCS/3.5e RLPH. Also the racial vampires and vampiric bride/grooms are in Denizens of Dread/Darkness. Most people seem to adapt what they like from 2e if it hasn't been updated, anyway. Sure, you might not know the CR adjustment for a particular Salient ability, but big deal.

If you haven't picked up the two new VRG's (Shadow Fey and Walking Dead) you should. I think they are very worthy additions to the VRG line, with just as much crazy detail about their chosen topics as the originals.
