Douglas Niles is one my favorite authors for D&D literature. With that said, I enjoyed greatly the Puppet King but was sorely disappointed with the “Phantom of the Opera-style” ending for Porthios. I think he deserves better than that. A long time has passed since the prince self-exiled into the forest for his deformities. With the return of the Gods wouldn’t it make sense for him to seek clerical help? A Regenerate, Heal, or Restoration spell will fully restore him to his former self. I like Porthios a lot and I would like to see a continuation of his story or at the very least a real finale to his tale.

Actually, Porthios' fate in the War of Souls is rather different.
The matter is further discussed on:-

From what I read his fate remains the same except he leads a private small army. My point is though what's stoping him from seeking clerical help now that the gods have returned.

Err, in most DnD novels (and most RPG novels) the capabilities of Clerical spellcasting are drastically reduced. Nobody cast Raise Dead on Strum or anybody else I can remember in DL (except in one short story, but that most likely is not canon).

Well, he's not dead. And while Sturm was not Raised from the dead Riverwind was.

Oh? I don't remember it going that way. I thought they just healed him in the nick of time. Have to go back and check. In any case, that was probably a function of the staff, which isn't around anymore. Any other examples?

No, it doesn't. He disappears much later- at the time of Beryl's occupation of Qualinesti and the Silvanesti shield- and no one sees him fall.

P.S. You are not supposed to discuss novels on this board. Go to the link I mentioned.

It could be argued that he's talking DragonLance history, which is important in campaigns and such ;)

Well, I'm not trying to dwell on the incedent in the novel. I'm trying to get at what is the future of Porthios.

What I am saying is that there is already a thread for discussing this subject, and that two different versions of the story of Porthios' disappearance exist.

Are there any plans to use Porthios as a major character now that the elves are without a country? Maybe he can be used as an organizer of sorts?
