I recently ran a campaign in the barbarian north and another thread about Stoink got me thinking about a conundrum that I had never solved.

In a couple of canon sources it states that most of the steel weapons that the barbarians get are smuggled in from the Bandit Kingdoms. This is even the set up for the beginning of the two modules with the Blades of Corusk. What always bothered me is how did they move the weapons? There is only one pass that I could find which is Thunder Pass which leads into Colten/Stonehold. They obviously went through Tenh according to cannon, just curious if anyone else has puzzled over this or come up with a solution that works with canon.

I set up a pass to get my PCs from Tenh to Fruztii. Called Long Pass, it was not often used (a dragon had taken up residence there). I also incorporated my adventure "Boulder Dash" from DUNGEON magazine into the pass.

As said above, in addition to the Cruskii attaining theirs by boat from Vlekstaad.

Sounds interesting. Which Dungeon was this?

Dungeon #70, Sept./Oct. 1998. It's a 2nd Ed. side-trek adventure pitting the party against hill giants.

If I were a Stoink weapons-merchant, I'd probably set up a meeting somewhere west of Stonehold, on the bleak and empty shoreline north of the Barrens. A caravan through that area would face a rough environment, but not much in the area of banditry or monsters. At some minor harbor or cove on the north coast of the Flanaess, the weapons would be loaded onto longships for the trek back to the east. In the long run, that's probably safer than travel through the Griff-Raker range.

As a matter of fact I printed these maps out on a plotter and used them for my campaign. Excellent, excellent maps.

Unfortunately they don't include the Long Pass from Dungeon #70!

Not surprising considering how many little adventures for Greyhawk there are in Dungeon.

In what adventure is this "Long Pass"? I thought I just read that "Long Pass" was just was someone else in this thread made up for themselves, and used the setting-generic Side Trek adventure called "Boulder Dash" when the PCs traveled there.

But frankly, according to how I drew the map, there looks to be a "pass" in the Griff Mountains between Tenh and the Frost Barbarians. Feel free to call it "Long Pass"!

Eric Anondson (creator of the map in question)

True enough, I misread that post, I thought the adventure was specific to Greyhawk.

Love the new Pomarj map by the way. Keep 'em coming.

Sorry for the miscommunication.

Long Pass was in my campaign. However, Boulder Dash was originally a Greyhawk adventure (before it got published in Dungeon). The original Greyhawk flavor text (simply an entry that noted that one of the urns had northern Snow Barbarian decoration) was removed.

Plundering Poppof (Dungeon Adventures #72, Jan./Feb. 1999) was the same way though I don't believe any Greyhawk-related text was removed. It was originally in my campaign in the city of Fax.
