#1zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 11:18:06 | I was looking over some websites that had information on the old Dragonlance comics and one of the characters that they were focusing on was Riva SilverCrown. Anyone have any background information on her ? ~~~ |

According to Cam, it was intended that this be the same Riva Silvercrown as in the old comic. I justified this by saying that being in the knighthood was so important for her, that when she achieved the level of Sword Knight, she changed her last name to Silverblade. The problem now, of course, is that the DLCS still has her in charge. Since she was alive during the War of the Lance (guestimating 20 years old at the youngest)...that puts her at at least 90 years old. (of course with Krynn's shorter years...that makes her 85 in Earth Years ;)) Either way...shouldn't she be dead or at least retired by now? |
#6cam_banksJun 03, 2004 11:04:41 | Originally posted by Brimstone It's possible that, in retroactive continuity, she's actually in the same generation as Palin's older brothers, the heroes who Iryl Songbrook adventured with, etc etc. In other words, she'd be closer to 60 or 70 years old, rather than 90. The events in the comics aren't canon, or at least they're not recognized as such except in certain references, so at this point it's more a case of using the character of Riva in a canon sense. Cheers, Cam |
#7brimstoneJun 03, 2004 12:16:08 | Originally posted by Cam Banks I'd be alright with that. In fact, the last series on Riva (Sword of the Kinslayer) could easily be taken as post War of the Lance. It doesn't say...and earlier series claim she fought in the WotL...after all, she was the Solamnic Knights representative in Arena of Istar in which she dealt with Kitiara and Tanis. So that decisively puts it before the Blue Lady's War. But Sword of the Kinslayer has a white dragon...and Riva doesn't seem too concerned about it other than the fact it's a dragon (but it's just a dragon, not a "holy crap you're only supposed to be a myth" dragon). However...living up north, there are several years where it is well known that dragons exist (348 to 352)...so Sword of the Kinslayer could easily take place somewhere between 348 and 351...and still give her time to become a knight and fight in the final battles of the War. So...I'm not sure what I've decided. I'd rather she be 90 and dead or retired. But, if retconned...like all other retcons, I will accept it. |
#8ferratusJun 04, 2004 19:00:27 | I distinctly remember in that comic that Riva Silvercrown was an old woman (50-60) when she was a contemporary of Palin, who was depicted as being a powerful white robed wizard. The continuity seems to place this as being about 10 years after the two stories in the Tales Anthologies "Legacy of Magic" and "Kender, Gully Dwarves, and Gnomes", when Palin would have been in his prime (30's). When I wrote up Southern Ergoth I let Riva pass on, and gave the title of the Lord of Castle Eastwatch to her grandson Vali Silvercrown. |
