There's all sorts of questions that one can ask here. Are they identical twins? If not, then are they both the same gender?

Really, I would play it like you would in other situations where the person is playing two characters. Even if they are identical, they can be vastly different, as evidenced with Caramon and Raistlin. Their attitudes, wants, and desires can be different. They may be different character classes.

Now, to add a bit of flava, you may give them a bit of empathy. However, this may be better if the characters were played by different people.

To add a twist, you could have the twins have some sort of tension between the two, and see if the player is good enough of a role-player to act it out correctly.

I remember one time I was playing two characters at once - a Kagonesti beastmaster and a Knight of Solamnia. The two were not the most fond of one another. One time, they got in an argument. The DM and the other player just sat there as I went back and forth between the two. :D

I have always found that it is difficult to run a game where a player has more than one character. For one, it is more dice rolling and organizing for that character. Also, it causes logistical issues.

I would see if any of your other players would be willing to play the second twin. Have the players work out the issues of being twins, and see how it goes.

What about making one a sorcerer and one a wizard? ;) BWA HAHAHA That could lead to some interesting arguements with... one's self.

Hey, if anyone really wants to entertain their players, do what I had to do once... one of my players couldn't make it one night, his character, Angel Quickhands, a Kender Handler, was being played by me, my own NPC, Kalin... somethingorother (I don't recall his name... sadly) a Kender Barbarian... yes, you read that right, was also being played by me...

Well, they got into an arguement, if you can pull it off, try playing two Kenders arguing with each other! What a rush! :D

are you serious? you played two kender going at it? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU ROCK!!! really though, what i would do is have you, the dm, play one of the twins. it will be hard, but think of him as a really spiffy npc.

i'd make him/her play them as if they were very different behaving, but identically looking people... it'll make for some interesting story play if one of them gets arrested in the other's place. BWA HA HA HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
