I have a question about the sunblight disease. Does Angelyn StarSinger know exactly what the disease is ? Or does she just know that something is wrong with the elves ? Also, does she direct them to where they should go to start looking for a cure or is that just left out there for the DM to toy with ?

Ahem... make sure to include the (Spoilers) tag in any threads regarding the contents of any modules... no matter how remote...

She (obviously) knows that they have some sort of wasting sickness that manifests with leprasy-like symptoms and sunlight sensativity, but not the exact name, nor how to cure it.

In fact, until Spectre of Sorrow (if it's spelled Specter, I will protest) no one really "knows" what's wrong.

Sorry about that, I am usually on top of things like that.

Alright. So I am going to have her try to get them to help the elves find a cure. How should I go about that ?

I can't wait.

Well, the Cure for the Sunblight is the Tears of Mishakal. They're mentioned in a much later part of the module. The PCs will eventually find these and be able to cure the elves AND the evil temple-y place.

Just want to thank you for your help on the subject TRRW. I am on the last section of Chapter 1-The meeting with Shaylin- and I want to get some Academy Award winning role playing out of this session. I intend on having Angelyn drop some lines about herself and how she is too old to help her people while she is binding the PC's wounds. :D

Real casual, but also giving the PC's a hint at the sidequest.

Can half-elves catch sunblight?

Thanks

I doesn't say one way or another in the module.

If you want them immune, say their human half provides the immunity.

If you want them to catch it, say their limited elven blood is enough to contract it.

If you want a middle ground, give them a +4 Racial bonus on the save due to their thinned blood.

I'd mostly say they can catch it. Pretty much because of the "elven blood" rule for half-elves, where they are treated as elves for all purposes that require a race or whatnot. Such as only elves being able to use this weapon, or only elves being able to catch this disease..etc...

I'm with TRRW here, giving them a bonus to resist the disease, they may hold out longer, but as the text says, 'even the strongest will eventually succumb'

Yes, they can...and TRRW came up with a pretty nifty answer regardless. They can become infected with sunblight, although it is much easier for them to fight off the disease because of their human blood.

I like the +4 racial bonus. Run with it

Christopher

PS: Man, this is a weak version of the original sunblight disease/curse! *grumbles*

I have one minor question as well. Do the characters actually physically have to touch an infected elf to contract the disease? If so, it seems unlikely that one could catch it, since the elves are so withdrawn, even to other elves.

A weak version you say? Well I'm all for artistic integrity and the original vision of the creator, care to say more hrmmmmmm?
