#1zombiegleemaxJun 05, 2004 0:17:16 | I'm running a campaign with 8 players (qualesti red robe, centaur ranger, 1/4 silvanesti - solamnic(human) mystic, Minotaur Fighter, unknown(human) black robe, gnome rogue, Ice Reach Nomad Druid) and i was wondering if i could get some ideas for making the encounters a harder for them, any thing would be appreciated. also if anyone has any ideas for how the nomad made it so far north I could use it... thanks in advance |
#2theredrobedwizardJun 05, 2004 8:38:03 | I assume you're starting at 1st level, and I'll base my questions on that. 1) How is there a Centaur (ECL +2 or +6) in a group of 1st level characters? That's the extent of my questions. ----- Now for some answers ----- My group is shaping up to be about that large and after talking to Chris Coyle, I decided to just double the amount of enemies in each "non-boss" or "non-specific" encounter. In each "boss" encounter, add a couple of lower CR monsters as cronies. I won't give out anything more specific, as there's no (Spoilers) on this thread. As for the Ice Reach Nomad, isn't it the Player's job to figure out what his character is doing there? I mean really, the players don't have to do THAT much work before the campaign. Is it really unreasonable to have them do a little bit of work figuring out what the bloody heck they're doing in Pashin?! Sorry, I just have similar problems of PCs who don't want to do any work before hand, write 5 sentance backstories the day that the campaign starts, and just generally try to destroy me mentally. -TRRW |

I did in my latest campaign and it worked out well and it'll keep things slightly more sane for a little while. The easiest way to handle it would be simpley increasing the number of creatures in various encounters, or for individuals (which specifically state its an individual encounter) add a level or two. For the Bosses yeah henchmen work. |
#4zombiegleemaxJun 05, 2004 16:01:24 | i did use the level progressions from the savage species for the centaur (although i did have to edit it some what for krynnish centaurs) and the druid from Ice Reach isnt at all familiar with the world of Dragon Lance so im trying to help him out, the rest of my Characters i've made do their own back ground and story line (such as my black mage who wants to join the knights of Nereka) or i slightly forced a role on the type of char they wanted to play (ala the minotaur who choose his class & race then i tolld him he was an **** NOVEL SPOILER **** escaped slave from the ogres.) as for the tuning up of the campaign thanks for the ideas though i am gonna try to stay away from always just doubling the monsters as then there are just to many people in the fight but yea any ideas on the specifics of Chap 2 fight would be nice as i run tomorrow night. i think i have it all covered but im always looking for extra info |
