#1zombiegleemaxJun 06, 2004 15:09:05 | Please help! My game session begins in like an hour and one of my players wants to play a thri-kreen. Unfortunately, the wording in the Athas.org document is really confusing! For the level adjustment, it says:
|
#2zombiegleemaxJun 06, 2004 15:20:43 | It means if you start off with character levels (I'm assuming you will) your player's kreen would be a 2nd level "thri-kreen"/1st level fighter (or whatever) with a +1 level adjustment. This would give you a 4th level character starting out (start him with the exact amount of xp needed to be 4th level). So to advance him to 2nd level fighter (again, or whatever) he'd need to go to 5th level on the xp chart. The above character would start out with whatever advantages his two racial hit dice give him (hit points, skill points, feats, etc) and whatever bonuses his class level (fighter in this case) would give him (hit points, bonus feats, base attack bonus, etc). The best way to think of it is the character is multiclassing as a 2nd level thri-kreen/1st level whatever (his kreen levels won't give him an xp penalty either by the way). Just don't forget that +1 level adjustment added to the mix. Note: I'm assuming Athas.org doesn't do anything different with LA or ECL. The above is going by the rules in the DMG and PHB. |

Also - Athas.org will possibly adapt the Thri-Kreen from the Expanded Psionics Handbook, then again, they might retain the one from the Monster Manual II that they currently are using. Or they could somehow get a combination of the two. Dunno yet. But if you use the one fro the XPH, there's a LA of +2, rather than +1. |
#4zombiegleemaxJun 07, 2004 0:21:04 | See thats just one of the reasons I HATE 3rd... theres also cleave, great cleve......... |
#5xlorepdarkhelm_dupJun 07, 2004 0:32:58 | What does Cleave and Great Cleave have to do with LA's? :P Personally, I could never stomach 2nd Ed. I only would rarely actually submit to playing in it, and would never DM. Any game system (in my opinion) was better than it. 3/3.5e totally changed my thinking. |
#6zombiegleemaxJun 07, 2004 0:46:18 | I guess we all feel like that about one edition or another. I'm a 2e man myself. But, oh well, so long as it supports Dark Sun it can't be all bad right? |
#7zombiegleemaxJun 07, 2004 0:50:41 | One would think that But I was disappointed in the last Dragon(?) Mag... I was gona buy DS 3.5 for the "theatrics" of it... But I decided I will just create anything else I need.... Buts its good to know Im not the only 2nd ed DS player... |
#8zombiegleemaxJun 07, 2004 0:59:14 | Drop by the Out of Print forum and you can find a few DS things there. I've written up one or two interesting items myself (converted PHB equipment chart, expanded encumbrance chart, etc). Anyway, I don't want to clutter the DS forum with a bunch of OOP talk. |
