#2zombiegleemaxJun 14, 2004 11:01:12 | The original temple of elmental evil will help you, the original boxed set not too much, a bit more in from the ashes, and a bit more in the city of greyhawk boxed set. There's also the falcon revenge scenari (3 module) wich will detail the temple of st cuthbert and it's organisation in the city of greyhawk. You will have a complete 3d map of the temple and garden with it! (and of course details about Eritai Kaan Ipzirel and its followers) Must be some others sources, i will add if i remmeber, but i am sure other will help you before! |
#3MortepierreJun 14, 2004 11:34:18 | Dragon issue #306 has a LG article on paladins from various faiths, St-Cuthbert included (with a new specific feat) |
#4GreysonJun 14, 2004 11:54:48 | Originally posted by Laszlo_the_sorcerer I really like the Paladins of Greyhawk articles that Mortepierre refered to. You should definitely contact Piazo and get Dragon #306 and Dungeon #104. James Ward's Greyhawk Adventures of 1988 has a small section on St. Cuthbert, too. As does the more recent Deities and Demigods. But, the latter is more about the deities - but you might be able to preen something out of it. Last, there is a paladin of St. Cuthbert in Thomas Reid's Temple of Elemental Evil novel of 2001. His name is Govin, and I think he is a pretty good representative of a paladin of St. Cuthbert. Good luck. I hope we have helped you. |
#5zombiegleemaxJun 14, 2004 22:42:30 | Thank you much.............It gives me a great start if not all I will need. I appriciate all your efforts.:D I am not opposed to more research, however, so if anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate it. Laszlo |
#6castlemikeJun 16, 2004 18:02:46 | Falcon Master introduced the ideal of "Weisshund" guardian dogs for the Temples of St. Cuthbert, so a PC cleric might have a Weisshund as an animal companion (possibly gaining Druidical style animal companion benefits or standard familiar benefits for losing a feat). Also a few referernces in the Marklands (Furyondy) Redankin Desmart Overseer of St. Cuthbert in Chendl LGC has him as level 12 vigilant, devoted man truly represents the more retributive side of St. Cuthbert. He is red faced and overweight, and nearly fifty, and is blunt and impersonal. The charges of St. Cuthbert are foremost in his mind at all times. Works for the benefit of "Cuthbert's Lot". Don't remember where I read that St. Cuthbert's mace was supposed to be in a museum on Earth instead of Oerth. Think it was an old Dragon but just not sure. You are probably aware of the three divisions of his clergy: the Chapeaux which seek to convert people to the faith and wear the traditional crumpled hats, the Stars which exist to retain doctrinal purity who wear a starburst of copper, gold, or platinum, and the Billets who minister and protect the faithful who wear an oaken or brondzewood billet. The words of St. Cuthbert are wise, practical and sensible. The word of the Cudgel is law, and the word must be spread so that all may benefit from his wisdom. Weakness in faith and acting against the Saint's teachings are intolerable in believers. Unceasing effort should be made to bring unbelievers into the fold. Honesty, truthfulness, practicality and reasonability are the highest virtues. You could get some good common sense style quotes from a farmer's almanac or a quote book in the bookstore or library which would sound like doctrine. Things like: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A penny saved is better than a penny earned. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Though shalt not commit adultery (to the bard and rogues frequently ), steal (to the rogue frequently), murder (to the fighters (although killing heretics, self defense ...)). Give a man bread or silver and feed him for a day teach him a profession and feed him for life. Passing through the midwest when I heard one guy say to another "Whenever there is a job that has to be done and done right the boss picks us first" to which his companion replied "When a farmer needs to plow his fields or haul a load he doesn't pick the lazy mules first" Hope that helps. |
#7zombiegleemaxJun 18, 2004 13:04:59 | You really want to check out Elizabeth Moon's Deed of Paksenarrion novels (or the collected set) and her Liar's Oath and Legacy of Gird prequels. The title character has experiences which should be familiar to those who have experienced a certain village named Hommlet and the whole religion of Gird is a great place to look for Cuthbertitie religion. The whole Grange movement and the defense of Farmers from evil forces is an avenue which isn't tapped enough. Christian Johnson |

#9robbastardJun 19, 2004 14:47:36 | Here's the REAL scoop on St Cuthbert: The Life & Miracles of St Cuthbert, Bishop of Lindesfarne |
#10mortellanJun 20, 2004 0:29:23 | Don't remember where I read that St. Cuthbert's mace was supposed to be in a museum on Earth instead of Oerth. Think it was an old Dragon but just not sure. The adventure was called City Beyond the Gate. Not sure which issue. It was 1st edition to be sure. A good source to evidence that Cuthbert is not of Oerth, much like Mayaheine of late. |
#11MortepierreJun 20, 2004 2:40:49 | Originally posted by mortellan That was in issue #100. I have to disagree though because that module states that "long before St-Cuthbert rose to his exalted station, his mace was hidden away from those who would steal it .. outside the bounds of normal time and space, in a place so outlandish that the Mace's power and destiny would be unknown and unknowable". So, if anything, this constitutes evidence that St-Cuthbert hid his mace in a world (Earth) eons away from his own (Oerth). |
#12robbastardJun 20, 2004 16:39:30 | Who's to say that Earth isn't St Cuthbert's original home? |
#13mortellanJun 20, 2004 20:17:17 | Who's to say that Earth isn't St Cuthbert's original home? I agree. His origin could swing either way. My reasoning is where else would be a good spot to hide the Mace but in a place no other person from Oerth but Cuthbert had been to? |
#14zombiegleemaxJun 20, 2004 21:33:14 | Here's the REAL scoop on St Cuthbert: This link is fot the Catholic St. Cuthbert........Thank you, it was a very interesting read. Thanks for all the other help also. Some of the quote suggestions are great. I will defenetly be ******* my rogue off with them......:D |

#17zombiegleemaxJun 22, 2004 3:33:42 | Exact, the Holy mace of St Cuthbert is on Earth. In fact i even used it yesterday to open a coconut, and the mace was quite useful. It wan't a cursed coconut, so i cannot say if the mace still retaind its power on Earth, but it was quite useful. I won't give it back to St cuthbert. |
