The DM's guide actually says that you can't take the Red Wizard prestige class for your character which makes sense. But it seems strange to think that Hazlik was the only one from Thay in the Dread Realms. |

For example: If they weren't allowed to reference the red wizard PrC, they wouldn't have been able to include a note banning its use in RL. Which, I have to say, struck me as odd, considering that Hazlik is a red wizard and has been actively teaching students in his methods. Not to mention that that section was also intended to cover what happens to those prestige classes when they enter the demiplane, as opposed to just natives, so all the simplistic "not allowed" notes actually served to defeat the section's purpose. |

#6zar_nilnJun 15, 2004 0:53:26 | My DM is allowing Hugo to take the Red Wizard prestige class. It makes sense that Hazlik would teach his way, the Red Wizard focus-on-one-school-and-let-the-rest-go-to-the-Abyss way. |
#7zombiegleemaxJun 15, 2004 11:28:42 | Originally posted by John W. Mangrum Has there been any explanation for why that decision was made? I don't have the Red Wizard PrC for reference (it's not in the SRD) and can't think of it having anything that would break in Ravenloft. |
#8zombiegleemaxJun 15, 2004 13:48:11 | I don't think it was a decision for the game balance of ravenloft...but more just so that they don't have to say...go out and buy the faerun book...go out and buy dark sun...its kind of like it has its own independance as its own game world. Of course they could've said that it was optional...but I think officially they want to be cut off from the other game worlds. It works vice versa too. Even the planescape book doesn't actually reference the demiplane of dread...there is just a small hint about it b/c its still in the d+d world...but it exists mostly on its own. |
#9john_w._mangrumJun 15, 2004 16:06:51 | Originally posted by Brandi I wrote that section, and I don't know for sure why it was done -- I didn't have access to the 3.5 DMG until much later, so all the info on prestige classes only added to the DMG in the revised edition was added by the developers. So you'd have to ask them. |
