Well I've been lurking on these boards long enough now to feel somewhat comfortable giving this whole online community thing a shot. I just wanted to say that I grew up on Greyhawk and have been away from it for sometime now. But when I ran across this forum (and its numerous links to Canonfire) I was completely astonished to find that the world I spent so many hours of my youth enjoying is still as alive and vibrant as ever. At the end of a long work day I find myself winding down the evening with a quick read of the shared story of Wil Mitford or the enthusiastic praise of Dungeon #112. (Which by the way I did purchase for the simple nostalgia of sitting down with a good ole dungeon crawl).

Now gaming is not part of my present life and I simply don't have the time to catch up on all the latest ins and outs of the rules. But I do enjoy everyones contributions to these boards if only for the memories they bring back. So this post is mainly to say I appreciate the time and effort that EVERYONE here pours into Greyhawk.

And before I end this meandering introduction I am a bit curious if anyone would like to share one unique item from their own world (big or little). Perhaps a brief history or scenario of how it affected your world or players.

Thanks all.

Cool! Welcome aboard Fazzlewood!

You and I are in the same boat, as I am swamped with work and haven't gamed in a while, but I still like to keep up with the latest stories of GH and have taken to writing out my old campaign journals and DM notes and sending them to Canonfire. (BTW, make sure you register on CF as well!)

One of the unique things I made in my GH campaign was a spy network that worked out of Keoland as a special police force, fighting the good fight in the country and abroad. The individual agents had broad discretion to adminster the king's justice and enforce the king's will. This made my players less like free wheeling adventurers and more like military units. Actually in my GH campaign, adventurers per se (in the traditional D&D sense) are extremely rare and most parties are a type of military unit, religious order or government agent. Adventuring is just too dangerous for people to go into without patronage of some higher organization.

Well, have fun on the boards and check out the CF articles from time to time.
