#2brimstoneJun 16, 2004 13:27:22 | Originally posted by stige Yep. The DLCS map isn't as detailed, nor is it very accurate when compared to the previous maps. It's better than some, but falls well short of the best. |
#3zombiegleemaxJun 16, 2004 13:52:33 | so basically they just decided that a whole mountain is not exist? |

My copy of that map is electronic (the physical copy's at home) but if there's a difference between the Tales of the Lance map (which, I should point out, was never actually finished and went to press incomplete...) and the DLCS map, the Fifth Age products may have been the intermediary confusion. Cheers, Cam |

#6brimstoneJun 16, 2004 16:35:26 | Originally posted by Cam Banks Well...completed or not...strictly speaking of geography...no other map matches it's deatil. That being said...I wonder how closely it matches the first true (in my opinion) map of Ansalon in the Atlas? (almost all other prior to that were drawn on a hex grid) Perhaps TotL is the odd map out? Anyway, I'll need to check that tonight, just out of morbid curiosity. And yes, TotL is incomplete...in that it has a lot of stuff on there that was never explained as to what it was (including the "Great Wall of 'China'"), but it had more cities and towns and villages and ruins than any previous map. I seem to recall, though, that the SAGA fold out map was quite detailed in this aspect as well (towns and ruins and such) but I have misplaced that map and not seen it for several years. Where did you find an electronic copy of that Cam? |
#7brimstoneJun 16, 2004 16:58:31 | Alright, so I've been looking at the maps (original grid map, Atlas, TotL, SAGA, and DLCS). SAGA and DLCS as far as geography information goes are by far the most lacking. Both maps have info for mountains, marshes, plains, tundra, forest, desert and water. TotL and the Atlas have all those and the intemediary info (foothills, bogs, badlands, etc.). Now, when looking at these...DLCS most closely matches SAGA but when compared to the Atlas and TotL I'd say, strictly speaking, the Atlas tends to agree with the newest maps...as far as mountain placement. That being said, though, TotL matches the original grid maps much closer than any of the others...just more detailed. So...the question is...what's right? What to go by? Yeah...I don't have the answer. I know what I use...and I guess that'll just have to be good enough. (That is until the new atlas from SP blows away all previous ones. Personally though I would prefer a map that seems less painting and more detailed than in the DLCS. Don't get me wrong...it's really pretty, but more detail would be good.) EDIT: So I was looking at the DLCS map again...and damn...it really is gorgeous. It can't get that detailed (it seems) in a big overview map like what we have...but I bet it'd be great for smaller regional maps. (it just needs more towns and ruins....many many more...like what they added in KoD ) |
