Two questions about primal sorcery

I have some questions regarding primal sorcery and the innate magical nature of the planet Krynn. Here goes!:

1) Are primal sorcerers tapping the energy of Krynn itself, or merely the energies left behind after Chaos' many trips across the world (i.e., during the dawn of time when he fought against the other gods, while trapped in the Greygem, during the Chaos War, etc)? The text seems to contradict itself here: While it says in many places primal sorcerers tap the primordial magic of Krynn itself, it also says primal sorcery only really flourishes when Chaos energies inundate the planet.

2) The Scions: The text mentions the Scions as being ancient dwarves who mastered primal sorcery during earlier epochs of Krynn, and that, as time wore on, primal sorcery got weaker and weaker, leaving the Scions progressively weaker as well. However, it also doesn't state these Scions all died. With the return of primal sorcery, would these Scions once more become a major if subtle force in the world? Furthermore, does primal sorcery effects from earlier Ages fade as High Sorcery becomes dominant? I.e., would Scion magical items and effects be all but powerless during the Age of Despair?

Chaos' energies are what makes the ambient magic of the world accessible to mortals. They act as a kind of catalyst, allowing mortals to tap into it as wild magic. Without Chaos, the ambient magic of Krynn is only available to certain magically-aligned creatures, such as the fey and dragons, who don't use it in quite the same way as sorcerers do.

2) The Scions: The text mentions the Scions as being ancient dwarves who mastered primal sorcery during earlier epochs of Krynn, and that, as time wore on, primal sorcery got weaker and weaker, leaving the Scions progressively weaker as well. There were indeed some scions who survived until the current era. They're mentioned in the Fifth Age products, for example, and one of them aided the dwarves of Krynn for some time. It's not clear whether they lose any significant power from the waning of Chaos' influence over ambient arcane magic, or if they have become what the dragons and fey are - magical creatures that no longer need Chaos' influence. My vote is for the latter. They're all at the least very high level sorcerers.

Cheers,

Well, I can't really answer number 2 as the whole backstory on scions and who or what they were has been retconned in the DLCS so it's hard to say.

But for number 1, the arcane energies that sorcerers use is definately the magical creation energy of Krynn itself. Where Chaos/Ionthas comes into play is that normally this creation energy of Krynn is not accessable to the races known as the Children of the Stars (humans, ogres, elves, and their off shoots)...it is only accessable to the races that I call the Children of Krynn and beings who were born of Krynn itself (dragons, bakali, fey, etc.). When the Greygem comes along...it manipulates the fabrics of the energy just enough that it suddenly becomes accessible to everyone...not just the Children of Krynn races.

So...that's the connection. Does that make sense?

Ah....so ol' Ionthas merely acts as a catalyst for primal sorcery?
