I am interested to know where the official set campaign stands in regards to the flexibility of the Dragon Overlords. Meaning, if I want to say the elves call a council for all willing to help them at Sancrist and I am running a group of high level adventurers who are charged with driving out say Frost from SOuthern Ergoth or Beryl from forest of Wraywerth (Yeah I know I misspelled it). Will this really mess up the vibe of the campaign as being created by WotC?

Do you mean the campaign as it is being laid out by Sovereign Press in modules such as the Key of Destiny? There's a chance your campaign might not follow exactly with the events that will crop up in those, but this shouldn't prevent you from doing whatever you like with the setting. I'm adjusting my campaign to meet the requirements of my players and my own interests, and I'm not going to be concerned with making changes to the world as I do so. If I wanted to have the heroes stage an assault on Sable's realm in the Great Swamp, I'll do it!

Small correction for you, though - Beryl is already dead. Frost and Sable are the only remaining dragon overlords. Feel free to engage your players in their attempted demise, because it's better to exercise your creative control in your own games than worry overmuch about whether something you do will get contradicted later in a game product.

Cheers,
Cam

Hey thanks Cam.

Next question along that vein. I am new to this setting and have tried to get familiar by following the boards and reading whatever resources I could find on the web as well I have the Dragonlance 3.5 ed. sourcebook on the way in the mail. What is that current state of Ansalon at the start of running a 5th age campaign. Meaning if one were to start where the game creators assume one will start.

It's about 6 months after the end of the War of Souls, and the return of the gods. So, there's been a short period of reclaimation, clerics being invested with power, wizards reappearing and a handful of them being Tested in rather rustic conditions. The elves have had some time to spread throughout Ansalon, forming communities outside or within larger cities, an elven diaspora that has caused some troubles in the east and around the New Sea. And the minotaurs have a firm grip on Silvanost, shoring up their forces after the invasion in the last year.

It's a good time to be a hero.

Cheers,
Cam

So is the land at peace then? Are the elves planning to retake their home. Are battle lines being drawn. If not, they will soon be doing so in my campaign. Nothing polarizes a party like a good war;)

Also, at this point then Frost and Sable still control the regions they conquered? And have the metallics ever reappeared?

Actually, after we finish up Key of Destiny and its followup modules, the group I DM for is going to liberate Southern Ergoth from the clutches of Frost.

Seein's though 6 of the 8 PCs are from Southern or Northern Ergoth, and the other two are prospective members of the Legion of Steel, it's a pretty understandable goal.

So yeah, don't go killing Frost before we get our chance :P.

Yes the metallic dragons have reappeared. Both Frost, and Sable both still control their territories with an iron grip. The gods that returned will not stand for these foreign dragons, and will attempt to guide mortals in the way of helping get rid of these blight spots on Krynn. The gods that are more nature oriented really really really really don't like these dragons since they messed up the ecology of Krynn.

Frost is more in hiding if any of the overlords that still live. I would assume that Frost might actually align himself with a god, just so he isn't hunted down. But in doing so he will have to give up his territory control, and loose all the ice.

Sable will probably continue running her realm like she always has. But the bad part on this is she might get attacked by the minotaurs led by Sargas. The minotaurs will overrun her territory, and probably recieve aid by dragons(chromatics), and ogres since the ogres can't stand Sable.

Of course these are all ideas, and nothing more. If you like my ideas please feel free to use them.

It is said in Key of Destiny that the quest is to end in a "place of ice"- whether this is Southern Ergoth or the Icewall is unclear, but the campaign is also said to "cross Ansalon form coast to coast"; since it begins in the east it must end up the extreme west.

I'm unfamiliar with Frost. I thought Gellidus was the white dragon overlord, or is Frost Gellidus's nickname like Skie was Khellendros' nickname?

How come we haven't heard anything about Gellidus yet by the way? We have info for Malys, Beryl, Sable, Skie, and even Brine, but not Gellidus. What gives? Dead overlords get stats over ones that are still in control of large tracts of land in the world?

I believe that Frost (Gellidus) was mentioned alot in the first book in the Dragons of a New Age trilogy....I remember that Feril had left her homeland to escape and get power in order to destroy him.

How difficult do you think it would be to run a high level (10th level) campaign during the reign of the Dragonlords. i.e. just before end of the Purge or just after? To me that would seem ideal for higher level characters.

Example:

10 level party: "Ha! We are extremely powerfule adventurers beware of great high level powers and feats!"

(Insert name of Dragonlord here) : "Uh, yeah. Your in my way." Breath Weapon, Mop up what remains with a few tail lashes and claw/bites.

"Next please. Hehehe"

Frost is a coward, he stays hidden in his lair pretty much all the time and doesn't really interact with outside world. And he rules Southern Ergoth, which is quite out of the way... Sable's swamp is pretty much dead center in Ansalon, so it's normal we hear a lot more about her, plus she does wacky experimentations.
