I'm a very happy DM today I've pushed a player over the edge! He's RPing beyond my wildest expectations. My conundrum is that he's done such a good job I'd like some feedback before I decide what happens next. I'll try to summarize major plot points to set things up.

The campaign is based out of Martira Bay, and the character in question is a Paladin of the Overseer. The group was brought together haphazardly, and contained witting and unwitting agents from a number of different enemies. The campaign centers around the return of Azalin with the primary forces being the PCs, Tavelia and the Faith ofthe Overseer, and Kazandra with the local thieves guild. Tavelia has decided to throw in with Death initially so that he could exert total control over Darkon, after the dreams began she came into more direct confrontation with Kazandra's forces in trying to stop Azalin.

The PCs have been puppetteered a bit by noth sides with Kazandra actively directing the group through the parties thieves, and remaining hidden from the rest of the group. Meanwhile Tavelia monitored things through the Paladin a willing font of information about his adventures. Until he had avoided death enough times that he was becoming a threat. Tavelia then had the Paladin's mentor Witness Levitan capture him by luring him into a dark alley where he was surrounded by Kargat agents. Watching Levitan turn into a werewolf promoted a horror save which he promoptly failed. The Paladin then awoke in a dank cell utterly alone and struggling with his horror. A number of exchanges followed with me feeding him subtle clues about the plot through a dream sequence brought on by Azalin. Well the events in the dream sequence pushed him over the edge and got the following response.

"Lord of all that is right and just. Lord of my being! Lord Overseer PLEASE, grant my the power to free my mother of this evil for ever. I care not what happens to me!!!!
Take my soul as payment, damn me to the hells you know of, or any cost that my be eternal. I pledge my life, my soul, my very being for any help you can give. To free my mother, no cost is to great! I swear this (cutting myself on whatever I can for a blood oath) I am forever your servant or slave. Whatever you see fit. If I can only have the guidance too see past all these false truths. to get this alley out of my mind...............to help my mother be free for once and for all. I give myself to you! Do as you will
Overseer. I will pay any price for her safetey!!!" ........as I pass out from the blood loss.

Clearly a DP check is warranted, but I'm not sure I want to go that route. I had more Azalin inspired dream sequences planned (the things he doesn't yet know...) and a sort of willing servitude to Azalin might be more fitting than a flat out DP check, but I'm open to any sort of innovative ideas...

This was a dream sequence, right? I'm not sure it warrants a powers check. Now, if he follows up on the dream in reality with similar acts, then a powers check PLUS is possibly in order.

I'd reward him with bonus XP myself, if I'm understanding your post correctly.

BTW, sounds like a good game you've got going there!

Thanks for the feedback. I do believe I've got a suitable plan for going forward now. Some things are worse than a dark powers check!
