I just had a little visit in the "nexus" faq. the question of how forgotten realms and dragonlance are conected came up, and it was said that the gods take really powerful people from krynn and put them in the forgotten realms world...(funny...yeah, really..) where the gods have been when raistlin was strong enough to beat tahksis????

Here is the exact quote: 12.5 - What is Forgotten Realms and what is its relation to Dragonlance? In the Forgotten Realms boxed set, it says that the gods of Krynn send Krynnish mages to the Realms when they get too powerful. Of all the different links to Dragonlance, this is the most highly disputed. The Lost Gods trilogy was also intended as a Forgotten Realms / Dragonlance crossover series. I think this refers to the old 1e rule where characters weren't supposed to reach above 18th level.
