So...I know this has been discussed before, but I just thought I'd like to mention this little bit of info for those who were vehemently opposed to the BoVD and all it stands for and that it has absolutely nothing of value to add to gaming.

Dragonlance's "Dying Curse" is lifted (damn near word for word) directly from the BoVD...which in turn may be lifted from somewhere else...but that doens't matter. The point is...the BoVD not only has value...it has something directly applicable to Dragonlance. :D

Okay...comence with the smacking...but be gentle, I bruise.

Whoa, so what is going on? I didn't think anyone here had a problem with BoVD. I thought it was a great book...

Holy cow...blast from the past.

Well...it wasn't really so much around here...but that doens't really matter since it's not really the same group of people it was two years ago. But there was a bit of an outcry against it (saddly enough, spearheaded by Tracy).

Anyway...as I was going through the BoVD looking for pregnancy rules that I thought were in there (guess not) I noticed the section on the Dying Curse and thought...that looks awfully familiar. So I just wanted to share.

There's nice evil (warlords carving a path through the weak - where you don't see the details) and there's nasty evil (people experimenting on babies and the like). BoVD gives you options for nasty evil, and I think its a well written, useful book. I consider (and I'm sure the dragons did) the corruption of the Dragon eggs to create draconians a vile act, an act that went beyond cold and calculating to obscene. Imagine the player characters walking into the chamber in which these experiments took place (ALIEN - resurrection anyone - ok so draconians aren't human, form, but still), to witness the misshapen, pitiful forms of failed tests, gasping to cling to their miserable existence. The same could also be said for the Live Ones, its just that there is no elaboration on their plight. It's left to the imagination of the reader. The BoVD helps you mold that imagination if these stories are one's you wish to tell in your group.

If you've ever been to a movie with unsettling or disturbing scenes, aren't they always the ones you remember? (along with moments at the other end of the scale - moments that inspire). Are scenes like this needed? Perhaps not, but if the group is old enough to handle the concepts, I see no problem with it.

psst, tobin, the book with the preg rules is the other one tracy was against- the book of erotic fantasy. of the two, BoVD is a much better gaming resource.

Pregnancy rules you'll find in "The Book of Erotic Art".

That was another book with a major outcry about not having a place in Dragonlance. I disagreed of course. The Metaphysical Spellcaster and the Rake are excellent prestige classes for DL. The book has its share of silliness and worthless material, but no more so than your standard splat book. All and all there is a lot to be incorporated into any campaign.

The Book of Vile Darkness was an excellent book. I’ve always been a fan of Monte Cook since his Planescape days. I did not know Tracy Hickman was opposed to the book. It’s a shamed, since it really help me create the most intense, dark game in Nightlund using material from the “Evil Weather”, “Vile Damage”, and “Dark Speech” sections. Excellent source book, really.

LoL! I thought I was the only one utilizing this jewel within my DL campaign.

In my AoM campaign I have made extensive use of the drug known as Mordayn Vapor a.k.a. DreamMist. Within BlackBird's establishment(I believe it is called The Wounded Crow) he not only has courtesans entertaining both wealthy and not so wealthy individuals he also has what are known as Fantasy rooms. Within these PRIVATE rooms DreamMist is inhaled by his customers.

Not too long ago customers from OTHER areas began requesting DreamMist supplies and thus BlackBird(Known as Raven in other areas.) has begun to expand his business.

Yeah, unfortunatly my visits had become far & few between, but I have become sooo bored with all my computer games, and there seems to be a lot of major DL stuff out lately so I have returned to the community- which seems to have grown quite a bit... I just noticed that the boards on Dragonlance.com have become a major place to meet as well...

I feel... so...torn.

Oh, right, I remember that now.

Ah well, for some reason I just thought it was in my VD book...hmm...maybe I shouldn't call it that...

Anywho, it's not that important, I was just curious about what the chances would be for my players (the dwarf and human, anyway). I just have this feeling that they're gonna pull some crap like that...and it'd be nice to stick it to them, but I didn't want to do it unfairly. :D
