I've recently had inclination, if not pressing need, to consider gnome devices as they might appear in my campaign. With at least one attendant gnome of course. Of course after I had considered it somewhat thoughtfully I went instinctively to the rule book to brush up on my understanding of gnome inventions and the rules governing them. At which point I occurred to me, I'm fortunate that I kept my 1st Edition Dragonlance Book with my 3rd edition books, and that there aren't really any mechanics for creating their wonderful one-of... technology in 3rd edition.

In conversation with a friend, I expressed my lament. At which point, I was informed that the esteemed Mr. Coyle wrote some 15 pages about gnomes fated to be cut! I assume that no more than half of that was overly elaborate rules for generating full length gnome names and their subsequent condensing. He suspects that the lost pages will make their reappearances in the forthcoming "Races of Ansalon." But 2005 seems a little long to wait.

So. I'm curious, has anyone used the 1st edition Gnome Invention rules to produce curious, interesting, useful, fun, places or things worth sharing? If so, how about sharing?

I am a huge WARHAMMER FANTASY player. As such, I have attempted to 'bridge the gap' over for the mighty war machines that ornament that realm.

Generally Speaking, I have the Dwarves in DragonLance modeled off the Dwarves of Warhammer, with their warmachines, which are much more better made; have the abillity to inscribe runes into their weapons, and so forth.

The Gnomes, I have based more on the Empire for their weaponry. Their weaponry is a little more shodilly may, less reliable and such.
