#1the_people_dupJul 07, 2004 18:56:01 | Hi, I'm writing up my first Dark Sun campaign and I need information on Raam, lots of info. I've been having a look but I can't find anything. If any of you have any information(and I mean anything and everything) , it would be much appreciated. I'm also after some general stuff on the lifeshapers, Darogeth and the Mind Lords. Thanx-a-milion in advance, hope it's not to much trouble |
#2PennarinJul 07, 2004 20:45:16 | Err...taking from Kam's notes, info on Raam can be found in:RAAM To actually read more than a pooling of references, you can get the books in pdf format, online and fast, for a ridiculous sum at www.svgames.com There is also some info in the Official Timeline of Athas. Also, the site Dark Sun Rising, from board member Cyrus9a, has in its Map section a very very good computer render of the city and a key for the map. Well...anyone wants to add something? |
#3the_people_dupJul 09, 2004 19:27:33 | Thankyou, the only problem is is that I don't have acess to the listed books, but thanx for the information anyway. BTW, do you know where I could find a scale for the wonberfull big map on Dark Sun Rising? Hays off to Cyrus for making those maps. P.S. thanx for the help Pennarin. |
#4PennarinJul 09, 2004 21:18:07 | Originally posted by The People If you have a home computer with internet access, and you have a credit card, you can have the entire Dark Sun line of products on your hard drive by tonight for less than a 100 bucks; which is, compared to what I had to pay for it all, a sweet deal. Althought I do like paper and ink. BTW, do you know where I could find a scale for the wonberfull big map on Dark Sun Rising? Hays off to Cyrus for making those maps. What you can do is look at the size of the buildings of Nibenay and compare it to the size of Salt View's buildings; you can see that Salt View's are bigger. Its represented in the scale on those two maps: Nibenay is by increments of 150 ft while for Salt View its 50 ft. Looking at Raam's buildings, they're the same size as Nibenay's, so I'd say use Nibenay's scale in this case. Probably just an honest omission on Cyrus9a's part, or he's playing it safe (since no official map of Raam exists). |

#7zombiegleemaxJul 11, 2004 15:30:27 | I just read through this thread and I had to make sure that I put a distance bar on my Known World map! :D Thankfully I did! If you look in the north-eastern most corner you will find it. Now I am curious... I made the bar pretty much like TSR did for the original maps but they were on paper and thus easier to measure with a ruler. My question is are the distance bars I provided adequate or do I need a little something extra like 1 inch = X miles and the like? |

I've got the largest map, should I get one of the smaller ones? wit your meauring proble… would it be possible to do a grid or something…? just a thaught. need sleep… And Cyrus? Those maps are forking briliant keep up the…you get the picture. |
#9zombiegleemaxJul 13, 2004 10:04:59 | I'm glad you like the maps The People. I am redoing the world maps as we speak actually. I just put the new Jagged Cliffs Region v2.0 onlinea couple hours ago and I think you will like it alot better than v1.0. I'll have the new Tyr Region map up this afternoon. I'd do it now but I have to check it over a little bit more and I am so tired I am about to pass out myself! And one more thing, due to the huge size of the Known World map I will not be redoing it and it will eventually be removed from my site. The other two encompass that area anyways! PS I will look into the grid idea. I can always make a map that is covered by a hex or square grid. It would be very easy actually and a good idea. So which do you think would be better a hex or square grid? |
#10zombiegleemaxJul 13, 2004 10:11:52 | And I'll look into the grid idea! |
#11gabJul 13, 2004 11:42:11 | Gab has a Distance Calculator on his web site. Although I don't know how he determined the distances (it could be from fluff in the books or from calculating with a scale the physical distance between the dots on the big map). I'm not the one who calculated the distances between points. Chay0s did that; I think he used the cloth math and the scale on the map to calculate the distances. I just compiled everything and used Dijkstra's algorithm to find the shortest path. The algorithm is incorporated into the javascript on the webpage; the shortest route is calculated when you press the "Calculate" button. It could work for any map; I just need the distances between points. |
#12zombiegleemaxJul 13, 2004 19:45:10 | As per The People's suggestion to add grids to my maps I did! Look under my "New Maps" page (see sig) for versions of my world maps with hex grids. |
