OK My DM's ready to start his DLCS campaign so I'm writing a background for my character...but I can't work out where I'm from!!!

I'm going to be a noble, who will eventually become a Knight of the Crown. My background is tied in with that of a Qualinesti elf. SO would I therefore be from Southern Ergoth, or from Solamnia? Where are nobles more settled? If I'm from Solamnia, which city? Cause I'm not too sure now which cities the Neraka Knights have control over...

I've tried looking at the maps in the DLCS but am getting confused (I;m currently downloading the poster map at the wizards site)

THanks again.

PS - I'd just like ot point out how helpful the people on this section of the boards have been, much friendlier & helpful than on the D&D Players Handbook or General forum.....thanks to you all!

Well a good place for a knight to hail from in Southern Ergoth is Castle eastwatch, and maybe Caergoth since it is the southernmost major Solamnic city in Solamia...

What Age is the game being run in? War of the Lance? Post War of Souls? What is the tie in with the Qualinesti elf? Old friends?

If this is during the War of the Lance there are not many elves in Southern Ergoth until after they have fled their homeland.

If this is PRE-War of Souls the elves are under control of the Dark Knights and the green dragon Beryl.

If this is POST-War of Souls they are all in exile.

If you are human you could be a noble from anywhere. There are nobles in every society. You could probably pick a spot on the map where any large collection of humans live and be a noble from that area. Heck, you can find nobles in the jungles of Nordmaar and the deserts of Khur. So once you've figured out where the elf is from just pick an adjacent human city or town.

If your campaign is set pre or post war of souls, your character could still be from Palanthus. Perhaps his family was stripped of its nobility by the Dark Knights (though they still have resources stashed elsewhere) and maybe your character seeks to reestablish his family's honour. Maybe the tie you have with the elf was established when your characters family was first forced from the city and found themselves wandering the wilderness (even though the elf might be far from home - maybe a ranger). Over the years he/she has become a good family friend and seeks to help you take back what is rightfully yours. Just some thoughts.

Our campaign is set post war of souls. THe details of how the elf ties in, is he has been punished for the crimes of his brother against the Solamnic Knights (he murdered one) by being forced in to a life of servitude with a noble family (mine). over the years mutual respect has grown between the elf & my family and he now stays because he wants to, not because he's forced to. The elf servs us on our lands.

Hope this info helps....I'm thinking somewhere in Southern Ergoth would be a good place to hail from since there's elves & humans there after the war of souls. I'm not going to be a knight for a few levels yet, but my father is a solamnic knight.

He's already stated it:

Hi,

The elf in question is mine so I thought I would clarify things for edgelett.

Though my elf is a Qualina-mathingi, he has spent a lot of time with the Kaga-mathingis (sorry, not sure of the words ) after his family left the Qualinost lands.

His family migrated to the human lands to start again as merchants. He joined them to do his coming of age and after many problems was left to do service to edgeletts family for crimes of his family.

He is a druid, who became the warden of the nobles lands and has grown attached to these good, honourable people. When edgelett's character leaves he will follow to continue his debt of service and protection.

This is brief rundown but I purposly left out details like the lands my family moved to so the DM and edgelett was not restricted. So in answering her question don't look at the elven lands for reference as I can write in my family went as far as is required to set up.

I hope this helps her and those helping her with info. Ta.:D
