Maybe someone has already came up with it, but I don't really want to use the search button for this, since I know that the wizard has discussed often and long, so maybe some could just give me a link or a quick answer.

Well, comming to the point:
Defiler and preserver are now one core class, the wizard.
Why is it that some feats have Defiler or Preserver as prerequisites?
Shouldn't it be defiling or preserving?

And what about giving Path Dexter, Path Sinister and Spell Mastery a [Arcane] descriptor and allow Wizzards to take Item Creation, Metamagic and Arcane feats as one of their bonus feats, since no other class gets a use from them?
Maybe other feats could be added to this.

Taken from DS3
Preservers who defile must roll a Will Save DC 10 + spell level + amount of times previously defiled. Failing this save, they become defilers.

By the above rule a preserver who defiles intermittently is not a defiler. So to take advantage of the Raze feats (those with a Defiler prerequisite), that preserver must be past failing his save and be unable to stop defiling or to return to being a preserver, short of extreme measures.

Well, there's a few notable reasons:

First: The defiler and preserver may be a single class, but I see them more as a single class just like all psions are a single class. However, there are some notable differences between a Psion(shaper) and a Psion(egoist). In a similar way, there are differences between a Wizard(defiler) and a Wizard(preserver).

Second: Currently, the system is open enough that those who wish to include a sorcerer into the mix, can. By defining preserver or defiler like it does, this means that by "defiler", for those who wish to have Sorcerers in their Dark Sun, can in effect have Sorcerer(defilers) and Wizard(defilers).

Third: as what Pennarin already mentioned. a preserver who occasionally defiles is not a defiler. And a defiler cannot preserve without help to redeem themselves.

That means a wizard is a Preserver unless he fails his Will save DC 10 + X and therefor he becomes a Defiler, right?

Or he decides to be a Defiler from the beginning.

If he was a preserver to begin with. The other option is like Elonarc says.
