#1green_cloaked_sorcererJul 19, 2004 15:16:45 | OK time for another post. Is it just me or are all the main Wizard characters Wise & Hickman create always make at some or most of the time in thier lives jerks, and angry bitter people? I mean it might be me but look Raist, starts out a jerk then in DoSF turns back to the good side, in a way. Dalamar is always jerk and back stabber, (I realize that both were black robs but still... goes with my point) And Palin. starts out an awesome guy and character, then come WoS turns into a big jerk who forsakes everyone he loved, until the end but still. Why is this? GCS |

Especially those who have gone through such hellish lives as the three characters you specified, Raist with his traumatic childhood....Dalamar having been kept from studying magic he had the skill to practice, then being ejected from his home because he practiced black magic....Palin having lost family members and friends through horrific wars......Palin and Dalamar having been stripped of their greatest talent when the magic was lost during the early Fifth Age.... They have reason enough to be bitter....and Ive only scratched the surface |
#3quentingeorgeJul 19, 2004 16:21:06 | Hmmm, actually, I'd say those characters are the only "jerk" wizards. Par-Salian really wasn't a jerk, nor was Justarius. Ladonna and Jenna were strong women, but I wouldn't really call them a jerk. |
#4green_cloaked_sorcererJul 19, 2004 16:30:13 | thats why i said main characters Quint, even Jenna is one. And i'm not saying they didn't have a right. I am asking why they always make them that way, I guess Fizban wasn't but he was crazy |
#5zombiegleemaxJul 19, 2004 17:07:06 | Originally posted by Green_Cloaked_Sorcerer I dont think you can blame Palin... He was tortured, his life goal- magic, dissappeard, and even his new dram- the academy became ruin... but Raist & Dalamar are sick |
#6theblackrobedarchmageJul 19, 2004 18:08:27 | You know what they say, with great power comes great arrogance, or something to that effect. Heh, even I am not above that fact. |
#7zombiegleemaxJul 19, 2004 20:11:14 | I guess no more then that most of the main character Elves presented in DragonLance books are always noble elves, ie some sort of connection with Elfish nobility with the notable exception of Dalamar and Tanis from a certain point of view. |
#8green_cloaked_sorcererJul 19, 2004 23:04:16 | like I said I am not argueing wether or not they had a right to be jerks but I mean we all know hes not Dalamar the Dark, hes Dalamar the Douche. I mean I personally really like spell casters, and I am not a fan that the all turn out to be douche bags. Wether they had reasons or not, i just don't like that they always turn out that way. I hope others agree with me. Palin was my fav character till WoS, well Second fav Laurana always has been but she was ignored till WoS basically. But good point, why are most the elves connected with royalty? I mean I can see Alahna, but i really liked how most of the mains from WotL and Gerard especially were just no name people who kinda get swept up. It seems more adventure like. Thats why I LOVED DL to begin with. |
#9zombiegleemaxJul 27, 2004 10:24:10 | There's no such thing as a "jerk" wizard. They're just having bad days |
#10zombiegleemaxJul 29, 2004 14:10:43 | I dont think it is that they are jerks. Rather wizards know the amount of power that they can and do wield. A fighter can hit you with a sword. BIG DEAL! A wizards can fry you with a fireball, suck your soul, and then, bring ya back as an undead. The attitude comes with the power that they wield. |
