#1zombiegleemaxJul 22, 2004 15:52:11 | How hard should it be to find metal weapons? Does not have to be adamantine or even masterwork |
#2zombiegleemaxJul 22, 2004 16:39:58 | I am looking for a list of standard equipment a maenad shaper would have at 10th level (9th if you include the ECL) . A bone weapon of choice. A small piece of cloth to serve as clothing. 2 ceramic bits. One other mundane item of choice. |
#3korvarJul 22, 2004 18:18:10 | Originally posted by Mywurld I'd say 100x harder than to find normal weapons, as a baseline. Dunno how that will help you figure the chances, though |
#4zombiegleemaxJul 22, 2004 19:34:28 | I will "give" a metal dagger at 4th or 5th, shortsword at 8th, and greater weapons at 10th. That also depends on if they "come across" any Magic items/weapons. All words in quotation are a nice way to say "YOu see a small band of about ten men. And one has a(_________)on his side." |
#5pringlesJul 23, 2004 7:22:05 | In my campaign, the 5 player are average 7th level and they have a metal sabre +1 (found in a treasure), a steel wrist razor (brought on the market), two steel hand-axe (in fact, hallberd blade on a smaller stick, they stole it from dead Tyr templar), and a bronze dagger (brought it). Oh, they also have a steel dagger, but old and rusty (found in a treasure). They also have a steel arm-plate (found in a treasure). The other weapons are an obsidian long sword +2 (found in a treasure), an normal bone impaler, a couple of Chatka, a Gythka, a bone short sword, a Behir horn (used as a club, they dont know they can make Lightning bolt component with it). For armor, they have two Ankheg plate, a bone studded leather and that all. Two helmet made from the shell of a tortoise. |
#6zombiegleemaxJul 23, 2004 9:05:01 | YOur more generous then I am. Of course you do have five players, so It isnt too much more generous |
#7zombiegleemaxJul 23, 2004 9:35:57 | Wow Pringles, you just about described what I would stash away in the King's treasure vaults ;) |
#8SysaneJul 23, 2004 9:43:27 | My party of 8 players is averaging about 5th level and all they have so far are two iron short swords. |
#9pringlesJul 23, 2004 13:17:17 | All these item were rolled in a treasure table. So its not exagerated. |
#10zombiegleemaxJul 23, 2004 20:27:21 | Then maybe you shouldnt roll. I never do, I plan an encounter, decide how many of what at what level. What weapons, and equipment, and Bam IF they will acquire a bone flame dagger, it is definately used against them. Hell in regular D&D I have to remind myself to give the party some magic. I did fudge a game once, by going from nice to monty hall, but we scratched that game shortly after. |
#11dracochapelJul 24, 2004 8:54:01 | If they are getting all this great loot, who are they fighting for it? if there is a metal sabre +1 why is it treasure and why isnt it been used by a half-elf rogue who tries to backstab the preserver in the party? Have them buy a steel wrist razor and then be chased by hirelings of Clan Rossha who are eager to get the wrist razor back for the gladiator match the next day where their champion fights an opponent with wrist razors only. And an obsidian long sword +2 - apparently obsidian is popular with defilers who practice blood sacrifice, and a MAGICAL long sword is even better. Like tha nomad said - if they get something good, its only because you are going to screw them over later. |
#12zombiegleemaxJul 24, 2004 15:39:09 | Not all treasures are guarded in some way by creatures that are able to utilize the treasures themselves. A ruin whose inhabitants are incorporeal undead or nonsentient beasts isn't likely to have denizen that will make use of the treasures that they guard, willingly or coincidentally. |
#13zombiegleemaxJul 24, 2004 18:34:19 | But undead in itself can be pretty hard core if the right one is used, And how were these undead created is there a lich or some other great evil, that is hordling this treasure. And like draco chappel mentioned, have it get jacked later. Maybe a party of excons heard about the heros plans, and follows them to the ruins, only to jump them and take the newly excavated treasure. |
#14zombiegleemaxJul 25, 2004 12:21:18 | Originally posted by DracoChapel See, I don't know if I totally agree with this, but certainly, metal equipment draws a lot of attention. My campaign has a 5 person, 6th level party, and they have amongst them a couple of iron daggers, and an iron mace (+1, even). They have these because they have had run-ins with templars and nobles a few times. And although they're nice, they are troublesome, since especially the mace throws up all sorts of red flags if it's noticed when entering any City-State aside from Tyr. (pretty much every other City-State has low level templars with the gate guards, looking for magical items and suspicious persons) Basically, if the daggers are noticed, they might need to bribe a templar to not get them taken (since they don't have the look of nobles), and if the mace is noticed, they're in fairly deep trouble. But, I don't think I'd go as far as giving them something just to have them hunted down. |
#15pringlesJul 25, 2004 16:55:12 | My player must work very hard to get this item: Obsidian Long sword +2 and the arm plate: Found in the lair of Ankheg. It was the equipement of an adventuring party who died there before except for one guy who escaped (and told the pc about this lair). Lost it during a fight with a Wyvern on a mountain. The owner got killed and the sword fell 1000 feet below. Metal wrist razor: brought in a Tyr Elven market for about 1000+ pc. Still have it Old +1 metal sabre: Found inside an old Green age ship when the PC adventured in the Silt sea. The hilt as gem in it. The owner (a gladiator)keep it rolled inside a curtain kept in his backpack. He only take it on last resort and as a matchet when they were adventuring in the Forest ridge to cut in the bush. The two steal hallberd converted to Hatchet: The PC were fighting against a couple of Tyr guard and Templar. They sold one of the blade later in the game for food to some Urikite guard in a Fort in the Ringing mountain. An elf tryed to stole it but he missed is Pick pocket rolled and got killed. The bronze dagger: I dont rmeember how they got it, but it cost them a lot annd its used by the Rogue. The metal dagger: Rolled in a treasure The Hearthwood spear: That was the goal of my campaign. We are playing the Verdant passage novel but with heavy modification. Rikus, Sadira, Neeva dont exist, instead its my player with there character that must kill Kalak. We played this campaign since 1 year and they finally found the spear in the game of last week. Now they must get back to Tyr before the gladiator game beggin. After they kill Kalak (if they succeed), Nok will try to retreive the spear.I dont want this weapons in the hand of my PC for too long. Also, I made some modification on it. Its a stake +5 that protect from defiling and psionic. It dont ignore armor like in the book. The other magic item they have: A ring of Raise dead with 3 charge. They used all of the 3 charge. It will cost a lot if they want to recharge it and they will have to find some very hard componenet (almost impossible). The Alliance gave this to them so they can achieve there mission. A fire protectiong ring: From a Defiler they killed Bracer AC 7: From the same defiler A couple of fruit A ring of Jump A couple of magical and clerical scroll A bag of Holding (found in the WYvern lair) A couple of arrow +1 a elven vilain of my campaign used on the PC (they dont know its +1). So it's not a Monthy Haul party. They are pretty balanced and have hard time trying to overcome the danger I throw at them. If you want a description of my campaign, check for later thread called ``Verdant passage`` P.S Sorry for my bad english, Im french canadian |
