#1zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 13:05:16 | what is your favorite dl novel mine is down too two the soulforge and dragons of winter night |
#2brimstoneJul 26, 2004 13:26:01 | I have a few...but for starters, I never include Chronicles or Legends as up for grabs. It's kind of like when someone asks me what my favorite movie is...I don't even include the Star Wars movies because they're up at a level (with me) that the other movies can't compete with...so it's unfair and I discount them right away. That was a really complicated way of saying "Chronicles." LOL! Seriously though...if you discount those...it could very well be Spirit of the Wind...Sacred Fire in the last 20 pages though could steel that away. Pierson's description of the Cataclysm...and Paladine's response to Bedlyn...amazing. |
#3lorac75Jul 26, 2004 13:41:12 | If you exclude the "Big 6" I have to with Dragons of a Lost Star |
#4zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 13:46:22 | Apart from the Chronicles and Legends trilogies my favorite Dragonlance novel must be Kaz the Minotaur. I just love that minotaur! Ravenmantle |
#5SysaneJul 26, 2004 13:52:49 | Other that the major novels Weasel's Luck was a pretty good read. |
#6SysaneJul 26, 2004 13:53:58 | Other than the major novels Weasel's Luck was a pretty good read. |
#7zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 14:07:15 | I'd have to say "Draconian Measures". Favorite short story: "To Convince the Righteous of the Right" from "Heroes and Fools". God I love Kang. |
#8cam_banksJul 26, 2004 14:32:40 | My favorites outside of Tracy and Margaret's novels are "The Citadel" by Richard Knaak and "A Warrior's Journey" by Paul Thompson & Tonya Cook. "Rose and the Skull" wasn't bad either, which is one of Jeff Crook's books. I'm not a fan of "Legend of Huma" or the Elven Nations trilogy, so it's a little strange that I like those authors outside of their other works - but life's like that. Cheers, Cam |
#9zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 14:32:45 | Draconian Measures is also a very good book! It came down to either Draconian Measures or Kaz the Minotaur and of those two the latter is slightly better in my opinion... Ravenmantle |
#10zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 14:35:48 | Better hurry before a wandering WizO comes by and closes the thread! My favorite...is actually a list of favorites....which continues to grow, but it is always these that I read again and again.... Chronicles Legends Second Generation Summer Flame War of Souls Raistlin Chronicles Kang's Regiment Legend of Huma The Citadel Dalamar the Dark any Tales novel Lord Soth Lord Toede and as I have just picked up Wizard's Conclave and am enjoying it immensly I bet it joins that list. |
#11cam_banksJul 26, 2004 14:37:50 | And we can't really talk about this. Cheers, Cam |
#12brimstoneJul 26, 2004 14:51:48 | Originally posted by Cam Banks Actually...I'm beginning to wonder if maybe they resended that. Notice the sticky threads about not discussing novels are gone. I haven't seen any officialy closing of novel threads in quite some time. Perhaps it is okay again. |
#13zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 14:57:12 | that'd be cool.....I think perhaps that it is about time for that too... Maybe they will open the Novels thread back up.......now that would be an early Christmas present! |
#14SysaneJul 26, 2004 15:21:38 | Why did they originally close the thread on novels? |
#15zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 15:47:39 | Originally posted by Serena DarkMyst thats not a list of favorite books, its a full set of books!!!! its probebly the amount of book that I have read my entire life!(which is not very long... ) I pick the Legends, oh good memorise... |
#16brimstoneJul 26, 2004 16:08:14 | It's probably best not to go to far down that road for fear of the wrath of the Wiz_Os...but, suffice it to say, novel discussions were much more heated and hurtful towards authors. Very rude and disresepctful. However, it was very rare that it happened on the DL novel boards. But when they closed down the novel boards in other sections (Forgotten Realms), they had to be fair and close them all down. |
#17zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 16:47:47 | Zook, you had better be careful or that old fuddy duddy Wiz O will shut us down! Have you seen Miclops on these things? |
#18wolf72Jul 26, 2004 20:55:03 | Stormblade .... no Draconian Measures ... wait Kaz the Minotaur ... argh! only 1? :D |
#19zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 21:16:38 | Of Legends and Chronicals: Dragons Of Winter Night. Of the rest: (And I fully expect to be alone here) The Shadow Years* Of all Time: For Whom The Bell Tolls. I throw that in there because it was with the Dragonlance Chronicals that I really learned to enjoy reading, and if it wasn't for them I might not have ever read that. So mad props to Weis and Hickman. *I still say if you take Tanis out of that it makes a pretty damn good drop in anywhere adventure for those who haven't read the book. |
#20zombiegleemaxJul 26, 2004 21:51:39 | Beyond the Big Six and the War of Souls trilogy, any Dl book written by Richard A Knaak. :D |
#21zombiegleemaxJul 27, 2004 8:06:02 | My two favorites are the two best The Soulforge and Brothers in Arms Then Ledgens Chronicls are just so good i couldn't put them in a list they have their own catagory of goodness. |
#22valharicJul 27, 2004 10:36:41 | I'd have to say Stormblade and Legend of Huma. |
#23zombiegleemaxJul 27, 2004 10:48:03 | Soul Forge and Brothers in Arms right after the Legends! |
#24talinthasJul 27, 2004 12:39:25 | heh. with dragonlance, i don't really have favorite books, so much as books i really really hated- Tales of Uncle Trapspringer, The Dark Queen, Soulforge, Prisoner of Haven, and The Oath and The Measure. Hmm. then again, if you want to call my favorites the ones i read over and over again, i'd say Darkness and Light, Wanderlust, Kendermore, Lord Toade, and the Gully Dwarves. and of course, Legends. |
#25zombiegleemaxJul 27, 2004 14:04:38 | *Gets his post in before the WizOs lock the thread* The original trilogy and Dragons of Summer Flame. ~~~ |
#26zombiegleemaxJul 27, 2004 14:13:03 | Would it be wrong to ask people why they enjoy these particular favorite novels? |
#27brimstoneJul 27, 2004 14:21:18 | Why would that be wrong? The Wiz_Os don't care anymore. The warnings are gone...it's not in the FAQ...no where does it say we can't discuss novels anymore. They have removed all references to it. Viva las libras! |
#28zombiegleemaxJul 27, 2004 20:50:40 | FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST! |
#29zombiegleemaxJul 27, 2004 21:04:39 | Would it be wrong to ask people why they enjoy these particular favorite novels? Alright, my reasons for liking stories like "First Dragonarmy Engineer's Secret Weapon" and "To Convince the Righteous of the Right" and novels like "Doom Brigade" and "Draconian Measures" comes down to two major factors: I really like exotic races in fantasy. Therefore, I love the Draconians madly. They're just incredibly...interesting. Second, I absolutely adore shades of grey. And the draconian nation, as it is headed, inhabits an incredible grey zone, between their evil birth and training, and their more neutral-to-good outlook these days. And mostly, their desire to just live in peace, and raise their children. "To Convince the Righteous of the Right" was one of the best examples of this, with the insane cleric of paladine, and an incredibly kind, comforting, and self-sacrificing aspect of Kang coming out in the same story. I am most displeased to find that there are currently no plans for further books in that series. |
#30green_cloaked_sorcererJul 27, 2004 21:41:19 | Chronicals and Summer Flame, which could be number one for me if it had more Laurana and cool Tanis, but I loved Palin in it as compaired to WoS Palin. GCS |
#31zombiegleemaxJul 28, 2004 11:14:59 | I think that the more people who tell us why they enjoy these particular novels or stories the better because that might encourage some of us who have never read them to do so. |
#32zombiegleemaxJul 29, 2004 10:47:58 | Dragons of Summer Flame was definately a favorite. I liked how they introduced the next generation of heroes to fight alongside with the originals, and the descriptions of the battles were awesome! I also really liked Soulforge. It was interesting to see Raistlin before he became "all powerful" and whatnot. Kindred Spirits was a good read also. Gilthanas was a bit of a brat, but I loved Flint and Fleetfoot. |
#33zombiegleemaxJul 29, 2004 10:50:46 | which novel was Kindred Spirits? |
#34zombiegleemaxJul 29, 2004 11:03:32 | Kindred Spirits was an early look at Tanis. It really showed the root of the hostility between him and Porthios, as well as his early relationship with Laurana. Flint also plays a big part in the novel, as he is first introduced into Qualinesti and meets Tanis. All in all, its a really good read. |
#35zombiegleemaxJul 29, 2004 11:07:53 | Oh, it deals with the two oldest Heroes of the Lance. Which book was Tas introduced in that series? |
#36zombiegleemaxJul 29, 2004 11:10:55 | I'm not too sure. Wanderlust possibly? |
#37zombiegleemaxJul 29, 2004 11:17:56 | I think that you are right! |
