How should I deal with a sorcerer?

Hey all. I'm looking for a bit of advise on how I should react to a possible situation.

Our party has two wizards in it. One is a red robe of High Sorcery, and the other (me) is going for white robe, as an elf. I take my test in the next week or so.

Anyway, another player had their Kender die, so they are coming back as a Qualinesti Sorcerer. I am a Silvanesti (Aspiring) White Robe.

I am at a loss as to how I should play this. I know wizards and the gods of magic hate sorcery, but the player is not an evil sorcerer. As a white robe, i know my job will NOT be to just start dropping fireballs, but I know I should probably try and get him to turn away from the sorcery and embrace the god-granted magic.

In character, I know I might be able to do this, but OOC, they player wont want to stand at Sorcerer 4, Wizard 1. Should I make allowances because of the neccesity of gameplay, or should I take the hard line, as my character would if he were really in the Dragonlance world.

Help!

There are rules in the AoM book to convert sorcerer levels to wizard levels if you convert him.

Inner-party conflict can make for some awesome role-playing possibilities, if approached correctly. A lot will depend on how everyone role-plays there character, and how you get along with the red robe as well.

As a white robe, you're not going to be murdering the sorcerer for no reason whatsoever. If the sorcerer becomes a danger, then you may have conflict.

I would see a white robe being uncomfortable, certainly. More than likely, you'd work towards trying to persuade the sorcerer to adopt the ways of High Sorcery. If the sorcerer decides to do this, you have no problem. If not, then you have more inner party conflict goodness.

Likewise, your character may also see his role as sort of a watchdog. You watch over the sorcerer to make certain the wild magic isn't used in a bad way.

Or, perhaps your character is curious about the wild magic. Maybe you're bordering on going renegade yourself.

The red robe then adds an interesting dynamic, being of a different order/alignment. How does the red robe approach this from the balance? Do sorcerers balance wizards?

There's any number of situations that can arise from this character combination. I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, I'd embrace it as a neat role-playing challenge!

Best of luck! Be sure to let us know how it turns out.
