#1zombiegleemaxJul 31, 2004 13:00:10 | I recently read Gary Holian's wonderful articles on the Death Knights of Oerth and I'm considering using them in an upcoming campaign that will take place in or around the Great Kingdom. What have you done with these coloful figures in your own campaigns? Do any of them work together? How do they survive in the Flanaess? |
#2zombiegleemaxJul 31, 2004 14:45:13 | The only notable Death Knight I use is Andromansis, whom is currently researching theories regarding the process of the transformation into an Animus for his liege, Lord Drax the Invulnerable of Rel Astra. |
#3mortellanAug 01, 2004 1:59:21 | The only DK I've used so far is Lorana Kath. She wanted to skin the face a pretty female cleric of Heironeous for her very own. She is twisted. |
#4MortepierreAug 01, 2004 6:41:11 | I've used two up to now. One of my players recently joined the Glaive of Azharadian PrC, so he is now hunting actively for Myrhal because he intends to reclaim the Trident of Azharadian. The group also counts a Knight Protector who is now hunted by undead assassins of Monduiz. They don't know about him yet but they will .. all in due time |

#7GreysonAug 05, 2004 10:48:29 | I have not used the 13 Death Knights, yet. But when I do, I will change the "patron" of the Death Knoughts from Demogorgon to Nerull. I know Gary indicated that the Demogorgon gloss is a reference and nod to 1st Ed. But, Nerull is more appropriate for our home campaign. But the Death Knights articles in Dragon are awesome. |
#8zombiegleemaxAug 05, 2004 12:09:18 | Isn't Nerull a Flan deity? |
#9GreysonAug 05, 2004 12:46:36 | Originally posted by Lassiviren Yes, he is. But, given his prominence in the dealings and realms of death, I think he is much more suited to give rise to the Death Knights than Demogorgon. A skeletal figure with rotting skin, red orbs for eyes, weilding a menacing scythe seems more appropriate than an angry, two-headed baboon. And, it can be the dark, Flannish god's way of striking back at the Oeridian scum that scattered his people. |
#10zombiegleemaxAug 05, 2004 16:00:07 | Thats true. I guess Yeenogh would make more sense than Demogorgon too. |
#11cwslyclghAug 05, 2004 17:09:34 | Orcus would have been the most logical demon lord/prince... having the domain of undead and all that. |
#12pvandyckAug 06, 2004 10:49:34 | May I ask how you got ahold of this article about the death knights? I searched and found that is was in LGJ 1, which I am having a very hard time figuring out how to get ahold of. pvandyck |
#13zombiegleemaxAug 06, 2004 11:23:22 | Yep, I don't have the Book of Vile Darkness. Since Orcus is no longer dead he would be the perfect choice. I was thinking Yeenogh is the Prince of Undead but its Ghouls or something like that. |
#14MortepierreAug 06, 2004 11:31:04 | Originally posted by pvandyck Actually, it's LGJ issues #6 & 7 (in Dragon Mag. issues #290 & 291). Simply look for them on ebay, or buy them directly from Paizo's online service ;) |

#16GreysonAug 06, 2004 13:36:53 | Yep, Dragon #290 has the article Death Knights of Oerth in its LGJ6 section. Gary Holian articulates the origins of the Death Knights and their aftermath. And, Rich Redman introduces the v.3.0 Death Knight template. Dragon #291 LGJ7 has Demogorgon's Champions. It provides complete stats for: St. Kargoth the Betrayer (CR23), his Fiendish Mount and Demogorgon's Bilous Sphere; Lord Monduiz Dephaar (CR21); Lady Lorana Kath of Naelex (CR19); and Prince Myral of Rax (CR18) and the Myral Crown. Then, brief descriptions are given of Sir Maeril of Naelix (Ftr12/Rog4); Lord Andromansis of Garasteth (Wiz15/Ftr5); Sir Olson Knarren (Pal5/Blk8); Sir Rezinar of Haxx (Ftr12) and Lord Thyrian of Naelix (Ftr14). Four Death Knights are left for the audience's imagination - Sir Minar of Darmen (Brd12/Ftr3); Duke Ukar Grasz of Torquann (Clr 11 - Hextor/Ftr4); Sir Luren the Boar of Torquann (Ftr18) and Lord Khayven of Rax (Pal7/Blk10). I checked with Paizo, and they have both issues available. I strongly recomend getting. These are two great articles that can provide some very bad people for a campaign. Gary Holian did a fantastic job. |
