My apologies in advance if this question has been asked and answered already.

Will the War of the Lance sourcebook have info on the nations of Ansalon? i.e. Kharolis or the Plains of Dust, etc. If so, will it be the same info as from the 2E Players Guide to DL or will it be revised?

I'm interested b/c I'm thinking of using the info from the 2E guide as a basis for future adventures, but if there will be added/altered/expanded info in the War of the Lance, I'll wait 'til the book comes out...

Added/altered/expanded? Oh, yes. Yes, indeed.

I'll second that. I highly suggest waiting if you want more regional info on Ansalon. Chapter 3 with regional info is over 90 pages in length... ;) Lot's of DL goodness in there.

My friends speak the truth! Not only does the geography chapter of the War of the Lance sourcebook clock in at an impressive 92 pages in length, but it contains regional maps for almost every section listed. The chapter is chock-full of details about the region it describes, and comes complete with adventure seeds to help Dungeon Masters who are running adventures set in the War of the Lance era of play.

You asked, we listened. All of you who were left wanting more after the DLCS and Age of Mortals should (hopefully!) be very pleased.

I remember some discussion a while back about a poster map for Ansalon appearing in a future product. Will such a map appear in WotL? or was it another product entirely?

EDIT: Ooh, just remembered another question. Will we be seeing any writeups on the Dragon Isles in the upcoming WotL book? That would be sooo fantabulous if we did.

The poster map will appear in a product coming up in 2005. We originally hoped to include on in this book, but it was not possible. To make up for it, we increased the page count on the book by nearly 100 pages--and there are extensive maps throughout chapters 3 & 4.

Oh--and the Dragon Isles are listed as a separate region in the geography chapter.

Damn. Still, it sounds like a fair trade to me.

Oh man oh man oh man, I really wish I was heading to Gen Con now.

Thanks for the quick response Jamie! I'm really looking forward to both products, and though I'm not a patient man I just know the wait will be worth it. :D

Chapter 5 is to Battles as Chapter 3 is to Regions. They both are just awsome...:D So that is a big yes.

In a word: Yes. :D

Chapter Five is is called "War of the Lance," and has an military history of the war, overview and DETAILED breakdown (including game stats!) of the major forces (both Dragonarmy and the Whitestone Forces), and guidelines for setting your games during major campaigns of the war.

The information is presented in d20 3.5 terms, but enough detail is there to use whatever miniatures system you prefer. My personal preference at the moment is Fields of Blood: The Book of War from Eden Studios.

Remember the rule: Havok is an X-Men character, havoc is widespread disorder and destruction.

Of course, if you're speaking Middle English, using the K is correct. Otherwise, use the C.

Fields of Blood is an excellent book. I own both it and Cry Havoc and they each approach the subject from a slightly different angle. Fields is very reminiscent of the 2nd edition AD&D product Birthright, in that it involves realm management, large scale diplomacy and war, skirmishes, and conflict on an economic and political scale. Cry Havoc is more purely a book about mass combat and the details of such, with multiple avenues into that. It gives simplified, moderately detailed, and very detailed rules systems that treat most units as "big characters", thus relying heavily on existing rules.

Check them both out. Each is 3.5 compatible and well worth looking into. Because I'm such a huge fan of Eden Studios and Birthright, their product wins out in the comparison, but you may feel differently.

Either way, you will have all the information you need in Chapter 5 to make use of the mass combat rules of your choice. ;)

Cam

Holy crap!

.......

Jamie...that news was orgasmic! (is it okay for me to say that?)

Well, anyway...that was really good news. Maybe I should look at having a friend pick that up at GenCon for me...

Holy Zombie Jeebus.

I really wish I knew somebody going to Gen Con so I could give them some money to buy me a copy of the War of the Lance book! The more I hear about it, the better the book sounds. Ahh well, I guess I'll have to satisfy myself with those web previews and the ToHS book.

Patience is overrated!

[snipped for brevity.]

SWEET!!!

Now, all I need is a fluff book titled Dragonlance: Weapons & Warfare (an homage to LOTR: Weapons & Warfare book).

Either that or do a series of Osprey-like softbound books. ;)
